You know I was thinking about Batman with invulnerability, and I realized that although it isn't comic accurate it is ok for gameplay purposes.
I really believe this is a problem of overall combat value increases. It seems like more and more characters are being able to do 2+ damage fairly regularly. And the characters that only have a 2 printed value have some other means to do more damage than that...CCE, PB, BCF, Flurry, Outwit, or something...
This is has the game become more liberal with its defensive powers. I for one believe these are deliberate changes to make the game a faster game to play...in that when you hit you cause more damage to characters (even with the higher defensive powers) and it is making older figures more obsolete. It is the nature of collectable games like this.
Personally, I don't see a problem with Batman having Inv...because really is it that good of a power these days? How much PB, CCE, Outwit, BCF...or other special powers are out there that just eat through the ability anyway?
These Batmen are fun, and as such I am glad to see them.
If damage creep is the explanation, why didn't a single Captain America from the Cap set get invuln? Surely if Batman has 3 clicks worth, Captain America should be worthy of a click or 2? It's these types of oversight or favortism that makes me scratch my head?
If WizKids hadn't made a 72-point 8-range, dual target Captain America that only has lines-of-fire blocked by indoor blocking terrain I might think that WizKids blatantly favored Batman by making 120+ point versions of the character reduce damage dealt by 2.
Wow. Bruce Wayne is actually playable. Most AE's don't do enough on their own to justify their points on the board. I would gladly play Wayne for his points. 18 Defend + outwit + stealth + some protection against outwit for friendly adjacent characters? This is a game-changing mechanic. I love it.
IMO, The Dark Knight is much better for his points than The Batman. That's 2 from this set I must have.
It does make sense that The Dark Knight is better, he became a much better batman in the second movie and he was a lot more acclimatized to his gadgets and even got some new ones.
These Batman characters aren't from the DC Universe. They are from the Nolanverse.
All that really matters is that the points value "matches" the effectiveness of the dial.
That's exactly what I think. I'm no Heroclix veteran or anything, but it seems to me that Wizkids is more concerned about how each piece fits in its own set vis-à-vis point cost rather than the Modern Age as a whole. The Hulk set was mostly devoid of giant-point monsters (only one fig > 200), so there was no mega Worldbreaker Hulk. Superman had a lot of much higher point figures, so there were fewer "street level" characters.
I'm willing to bet right now that most of the DKR clix end up being powerful versions of the characters, so they can square off against each other. Especially since this is a movie set, I imagine that it was viewed as a more self-contained thing.
Are these fairly pointed? I think so. I guess so. Does it somehow wound me that Batman has three ciix of Invuln? No. The points are paid for it, so he gets it. Batman's hard to kill, at least this one is.
and as for all the ppl whining about a smart normal human who just happens to wear armor.......that happens to sound like iron man to me! and no one complains about him with inv
Did you really just suggest that Movie Batman is walking around with an armor equivalent to Iron Man?
Did you really just suggest that Movie Batman is walking around with an armor equivalent to Iron Man?
I don't think that was the implication, but lets break it down. Let's use movie Batman and movie Iron Man to compare:
1. Both are super-genius
2. Both wear armor of a sort, Iron Man's is much more powerful of course
3. Batman has MUCH more combat training it appears
4. Both are wealthy beyond reason
5. Batman has Lucious Fox and Waynetech, Iron Man has Stark Inudstries
Let's also think about this in terms of other recent characters:
Hulkbuster Wrangler at 25 points has Toughness.
Is anyone saying that Batman SHOULDN'T have more defensive powers than Hulkbuster Wrangler?
If you give Batman Toughness only, the implication is that his armor is the exact same as Hulkbuster Wrangler's, and this is obviously not true.
65 point Punisher, also Toughness.
As I said before, I think Batman's Invulnerability is a measure of:
1. his armor
2. his combat training
3. his ability to take a punch (or avoid taking the brunt of one)
4. his technology and intellect
5. his resolve, determination, and ability to heal quickly
I think a couple clicks of Invulnerability is perfectly fine for movie Batman, or for any Batman for that matter.
Depending on which comic you're reading, or movie you're watching, Batman should have MOST of these powers:
Super Senses, Willpower, Combat Reflexes, Energy Shield, Toughness (at least), Smoke Cloud, Outwit, Perplex, Leap/Climb, Exploit Weakness, Flurry, Blades, Running Shot, Charge, Stealth, Penetrating/Psychic Blast, etc.
There's a reason Batman is the face of the DC Universe, and why even within the comics he gets so much respect from the other characters.
I said before, I don't want to play a Heroclix game where a GENERIC Halo piece (ODST Magnum) gets a better dial than Batman. I really don't.
It's about time Wizkids stepped up and said, here's Batman, the way he should have been done for the LAST 10 YEARS!
"But when I think about Jason...and what I would endure to have him back..."
-Bruce Wayne, Superman/Batman # 12, Sept. 2004
I'm so happy that we finally have the Batman that I always saw in the comic, but now in clix form. It reminds me of many of the Justice League books where Batman would be looked at in awe by more powerful characters. He can be a threat on multiple levels: psychological games, hi-tech weapons, hand to hand combat, and more. His history and abilities would psyche out his opponents as well as his teammates. This dial is quite fitting and I can't wait to play it. Also Batman seems to have amazing luck on his side. If he can take on a possessed Superman in the Hush storyline, then 140 points sounds great to me.
Batman also fights dirty when he must!

Didn't Batman also survive getting zapped by Darkseid's Omega Beams in one of the comics?
You're thinking of the Omega Sanction. It made Batman look dead, but instead put him in the "life trap" where he kept bouncing through time and lives. The Omega Sanction was first seen in Grant Morrison's Seven Soldiers of Victory, and it is not (necessarily) fatal.
Yes, Darkseid's eyes have multiple settings. Who is just that big a bad-###?
