Though I have not stated it in thread, I have conceptualized a real-time mafia where people submit actions and those happen immediately; Misdirects, Roleblocks, and jailkeeps occur and have time limits (for 24 hours, for 12 hours, for 3 hours, etc), and lynches occur whenever a majority is reached without ever closing the thread.

It sounds difficult however.

You would need to be on constantly. It would work better as a live game.

Possibly. I could designated two or three event times throughout the cycle that represent information being returned. Also, all actions / lynches are effective at the time of submission, even though there would be a delay to my response.

It's hard to imagine a game without write-ups, though. Part of what I like about closing the thread during the Night is that it allows time for rereading, thinking about where the game is going, and making a strategy for the coming Day. Granted, you'd have to have a very quick turnaround if the game stayed open constantly. Not sure that it could be pulled off if it means that you have to on 24/7 to have a fighting chance.

This discussion combined with browsing some of the games from before my time (specifically the "Something Different" games) has given me an idea for my next game... that will unfortunately have to wait until I have time to run it.

Preview: it's essentially reverse mafia - thread open during night phases and closed during days. Still fine-tuning the idea.

A secret ballot system where all players PM their vote to the mod and vote counts are posted at pre-determined times? Could be wonky.

Okay. Interested to see how this turns out.

Dunno. Seeing who is casting which votes and when they are being cast can be useful data points. Plus, it'd be an administrative mess for the mod. Guess I'd better just wait and see how it gets done. Nothing wrong with throwing some innovation into the mafia pasta sauce.
