Torrential Tribute allows you to clear the field on your opponent's turn ... and then swing away on your turn with Cyber Dragon, Zanji, Grandmaster, and Great Shogun.
how would you get the cyber out? tribute? :classic: anyway i full heatedly agree, i believe swarm decks need TT its like an easy button.
on a separate note, how is this deck running? my friend wants to make a samurai deck and lacks the money, is their any other builds that run without the 40 dollar samurai? or is not running grandmaster like not running sacred phoenix in a sacred phoenix deck?
Yeah running Six Samurai without Grandmaster is suicide. Using Reasoning is a decent start, but the Samurai need Grandmaster for the times when you can't hit Reasoning. There's a reason Six Samurai aren't competitive outside of UDE territories. Grandmaster is really the corner stone of the deck.
I was trying to use an example of how the Samurai deck likes to win, it wasn't smart to do that right after I was talking about Torrential Tribute, yeah there'd be no way to get Cyber Dragon out at that point.
I disagree. This deck wins by swarming the field in one turn. It likes to have a clear field or a face down monster for Irou to take out. Torrential Tribute allows you to clear the field on your opponent's turn, hopefully with Card Trooper on your side of the field, and then swing away on your turn with Cyber Dragon, Zanji, Grandmaster, and Great Shogun. Especially with the loss of two Smashing Grounds, this deck needs more ways to get monsters off of the field. That's part of why I'm starting to evaluate Hammer Shot as extra monster removal. Torrential Tribute has been a vital part of this deck for the 8 months that I've been running it.
Torrential in a swarm deck is a judgment call you base on playstyle more than anything else. It functions more as a panic button than anything else. I avoid using it in a swarm deck because I know I'll topdeck it at the wrong time, or hurt myself with it.

See I generally don't mind top decking Torrential Tribute. At that point in the game I'll take any monster removal I can get my hands on, especially if it's of the reactive sort. It fits my play style well, I generally don't use it as a panic button, more to set up my next turn.
I'm pretty interested in Mad Reloader. I just bought a playset to mess around with and I think it might be interesting in this deck, though I think it's really nice in my Cyberdark Deck. For those that don't know:
When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, send 2 cards from your hand to the Graveyard to draw 2 cards.
This functions much the same as Card Trooper in this deck. It sends Samurai to your Graveyard, the bonus here is that you can choose what is sent to your Graveyard, and it digs deeper into your deck for Grandmaster of the Six Samurai and Great Shogun Shien. There are so many decks that I want to try this guy out in, maybe I should have bought more than one playset. Between this, Deep Diver and Dimensional Imprisonment we're getting some pretty good promos lately.
I'm trying to find out how to get my hands on the other promo in that set : Dark Bribe. I need three of them urgently. But Ebay has them around 15-20 bucks, and they aren't worth THAT much to me.

Does this mean Clock Control is insanely broken now that Dark Bribe is out? I really need to test out this Clock Deck that Xav is always raving about and see what all the fuss is.

Wasn't it in the same set as mad reloader ? :p GX04 right ? And whether its now insanely broken or not I won't know til I get a chance to adapt my build with it :p I'm worried that the changes may make it more prone to jinzos. The change would have me altering it to more of a denial deck running 3 skill drain, 2 divine wrath, 3 solemn, 2 Dark Bribe. Problem with that is that I need skill drain before they get jinzo or I'm screwed. To prevent that I'd have to change the wraths to either mask of restrict (which clogs my back row) or forced back (which only buys me one turns reprieve). My side is mostly tech against decree and jinzo, as they are the only natural enemies of the Clock deck, but still ...
Against any other deck, or if you get drain before they get jinzo, it should indeed be nigh enough broken, barring poor draws. I played one summer cup qualifier with it, and won 4 of 7. But 2 of the losses were the result of end of time procedure (if it goes to game 3, you may not have time to finish the game). So it is really strong. Funny that clock's biggest problem is time huh ?

Did you ever settle on a build for Summer Cup?
I think .., (so no I'm not entirely sure yet, and its in less than 24 hours :p ) ... i'm going with the BTH maindecked and that spell ended up being none of the above, I put in a brain control instead. If I keep it as is, my side should look like this :
2 Royal Decree (traps)
2 Mask of Restrict (monarchs)
2 My Body as a shield (Vortex)
2 Enemy controller (Kinetic Soldier)
1 Cyber Dragon
1 Reasoning
2 End of Anubis (Zombie, works great if you have reasoning anyway)
2 Kamon
1 Mormolith
I'm slowly getting nervous about finals tomorrow :p Its not every tournament you go up exclusively against 11 of the best duelists in the country. To give you an example, current national champion Jonas Couvreur and the man that beat him at last weeks casual, Loic Depierreux will be attending. Jonas became national champ beating Guy Israel in the finals, whom you may remember from his third place finish at SJC Indy.
I DID IT !!! The deck works beautifully the way it is now, with the two BTH's and 2 Hammer shots. Not only did I do well at a Summer Cup store final, I totally owned everyone and went 5 for 5, qualifying for the national finals ! Just for going to the national finals I get the chance to play against 5 of the best duelists this country has to offer including the current belgian champion and two former belgian champions (Guy Israel being one of them), and an Ojama Token set and a copy of Green Baboon. That's just for attending !!!
The BTH were an excellent move. Baiting out s/t removal for safe play with call and premy at the very worst, stopping monarchs left and right at best. I mean what do I care for mobius and raiza if they don't stay on the field ?
Hammer shot payed off as a tactical choice. It'll often sit dead for a turn or two, but if you do happen to run into something too big, mass removal or whatever, it would immediately swing tempo in your favour again. Its excellent field control. Which leads me to my last minute decision to put brain control back in. Nothing quite beats stealing the opponents jinzo, attacking with it, and then playing hammer shot to kill it. With smashing you can't do that. So it takes some getting used to, but it works out well.
I evaded the only zombie deck in the tournament, so the cyber dragon, reasoning and two end of anubis never left the sidedeck. All day long reasoning bit me in the ###, they called 4 every time and it was always 4 ... even though only 7 of my 20 monsters were level 4. The one time it did pan out it ended up being cyber dragon. I'm keeping it in there, it brings sammies to the grave for WRA, Prem and call, but I think I'll stick with 2 and one sidedecked from now on.
These samurai are in peek condition. I think I'll keep the build like this, but put it away a bit now until foolish burial is here. Summer cup national finals will be in november, so maybe I'll have GLAS by then :p
After spending a whole night peeling through this whole thread, I've found some really good ideas to help with my existing SS deck.
With the GLAS sneak preview a few weeks away, and this being the biggest event I've gone too since coming back into YuGiOh after a very long hiatus (this card store is making it quite a huge event), I want to snatch the new SS cards up quickly after the weekend event starts, set my deck up with it, and be ready for it before all their big sneak preview tournaments start.
So I'm curious, what are your thoughts on what to add in and how many? So far I see that Relic's a maybe, Reasoning's a good choice, Armor of God-Speed and Living Blade are badass choices, and Councilor's a no-go, am I correct?
P.S.- Oh and Belgian, I had to snag a quote for my sig, made me giggle.

Congratulations on the Summer Cup finals. Looks like the deck is working well for you. I still need to tweak mine more because it's just not performing as well as my Zombie deck right now. I added two Hammer Shots recently, but think I also need to put Brain Control back in.

In a Reasoning build, I see Councilor as a no go. In a build that centers on Councilor/Dimension Fusion/Return From the Different Dimension, I think he could be pretty effective. This build wouldn't run Great Shogun Shien. It'd probably include Card Trooper, Magical Merchant, and a host of Samurai. It could even run Phoenix Blade if you really want to add to the remove from play aspect of the deck, though that might start disrupting Councilor. Honestly I'd just focus there at the starts. 2 Councilor, 3 Grandmaster, 3 Zanji, 3 Irou, 2 Yashi, 1 Card Trooper, 3 Magical Merchant, is probably what I'd start with.
Of the other new cards, I really like Reasoning of the Six Samurai and
Reasoning of the Six Samurai interests me because of how versatile it can be. It can do a great job of removing targeted Six Samurai, swapping a duplicate Six Samurai for a different one in the graveyard, or allowing even more attacks in a battle phase. I just love Quick Play Spells in general and this is a great one. Play Yashi and Grandmaster. Use Yashi's effect to take out a Spell he's already given you a +1. Play Reasoning of the Six Samurai to grab Irou. Take out your opponent's face down monster and hit directly with Grandmaster. That's pretty powerful right there.
Living Blade Technique of Various Blades is a great finisher for this deck. It allows you to get Yashi onto the field to clear out your opponent's back row, which gives you no draw back because you won't take any damage from him. It also allows you to easily summon Great Shogun Shien in the late game, simply flip Living Blade Technique, blow up some pesky Trap and drop Great Shogun. Very nice indeed. I'll probably drop Reasoning to 2 when these cards come out, though we still have a little while to wait.
I'm still not really sure how I feel about the Union Monster.
Seems the Union could be a replacement for Card Trooper, however, you still lose Card Trooper's mill effect. It does seem rather gimp. The only card I would feel like replacing would be Trooper, but it just isn't good enough to make me wanna switch.
Living Blade does seem really good. If possible, I'm gonna aim at trying to pull or trade 2 of them before the tourneys kick off.
And I like how Reasoning is sounding too. I may try to fling in 1 or 2 to see just how versatile it can be.
As far as the Councilor, I see what you mean. Would completely change the deck entirely trying to put him in. Instead of being a servant of Shien, he's more of a replacement.
Den summed all that up pretty well, I can only wholeheartedly agree. For the classic samurai swarm build reasoning/resolve of the six sam is worth its weight in gold, and Living blade technique should bring back some of the OTK potential they have. Enishi is a no-no for this build, but will probably give rise to his own chaos-return-like build. A little slower, but deadly if you get a return or d-fusion off.
Both resolve and living blade technique were commons in the OCG and I hope they keep it that way. Not just so I can get them easily (well, if they don't #### up the rarities, I'll probably get a box or 3 and a few special editions)but also because my samurai deck is the only deck that runs a minimum of bling, which promotes good shuffling. Only trooper and, grandmaster and shien are shiny. And I already replaced one grandmaster with a secret rare variant because they are lighter.

One time that happened to me too, myopponent called 5 every time and literally every time I reasoned I flopped grandmaster or cyber. I was so frustrated I half debated taking the reasonings out.
In the long run though the math is on your side, like rolling 4 sixes in a row with snipe, it will happen, but more often than not it will work out in your favor.

Congrats on your summer cup finish
Thanks, you guys all need to root for me at finals, since summer cup national finals is tantamount to playing the top 8 at nationals. I mean, imagine the 8 biggest tournament organizers country-wide giving 6 tournaments each. Each time top 2 unqualified players qualify for store finals, and then they duke it out and only the winner goes to the national finals to represent the organizer they won at. Guys like Guy Israel and Wim Eliano did not manage to qualify. I might just be in way over my head, but I'm still high on my flawless win at the store final :p Funny thing is, I didn't win it at my usual store either :p Jonas Couvreur, national champion, won it there. So far, competition is looking fierce (eventhough I only know the names of 3 other finalists)
On the reasoning issue, it is the reason I dropped it to two copies, but I never contemplated cutting out reasoning all together. In the end, even if they do keep calling it right, it creates a graveyard toolbox for when I draw WRA.
