I think stu is a better critic of artsy stuff than I am.
And I think stu is going to refrain from an in-depth critique. He likes the old frame better, but realizes that it does not matter in the slightest and that it might actually attract more flies. It does make sense to jar the public perception at the same time we are introducing the "big name appeal" focus of the Legend sets.
I remember when Magic switched their card frames, I didnt care for that and missed the old frames, but eventually got used to it, and will do the same here. If a card game goes on long enough, it will change its look at least once. I'd rather still have Vs with a new look, then no Vs at all :)

They have done that a few times. all the times that they did it, people where 50/50 on it but it just grew on all of them +5%
I like the use of the icons. Anything that gives instant feedback/recognition without reading is a plus in my book. I also like the fact that all the constant available options that a card may have are present on every card and they are just turned on when they are lit up.
This will make it easier to explain to new players how cards work I think. Before you could show them a card without flight/range, one with flight and not range, one with range and not flight, one with concealed, one with concealed optional, and so forth.
Now you can show one card and say this means concealed, this means flight/range etc. and if its lit up it has that ability. Way easier imo.
Splitting the ATK/DEF to two different corners of the card seems to be a direct move to make the cards accessible to players of magic/yugi etc. Not that its hard to understand now but since that format has been used in so many games already, having atk on the left and def on the right, its just natural.
As far as the threshold and recruit cost all being gold now I'm not sure what thats going to mean. Maybe its just to make one less thing for new players to remember and they can just be taught that Locations and Plot Twist don't "use up" resource points?
I do wonder if there is any relevance to the different colors behind the cost on all the cards. Seems like there must be something to it or why have it? Wondering if all plot twist will have purple behind the cost or if it may change depending on some new mechanic?
Great job UDE VS team. Looking forward to the previews.
If they are going to reprint cards, at least give us some new arts. They've done it before with Marvel Team-Up, Flying Kick, and No Fear. I am sure they can do it again, because reusing old art is just cheap

I understand, but I personally disagree. The old art brings continuity... which is important to convince certain people that the sky is not falling and their old cards will work with the new look. Very important.
Anyone that posted "this sucks, I don't want to play WoW" is now on my douchebag list.
In Erick's thread a while back, I stated that I did not feel that aesthetic changes were necessary. I still feel that way. That being said, I do like the new design, and if it brings in new players, all the better. I'm going to pray that I'm not scheduled to do anything on Wednesday of GenCon so I can play in one of the drafts, get myself a load of cards and a tshirt, and enjoy the new set.
I do hope we can get an overview of the new rules clarifications/changes soon though. Since I'm working on the demo team at GenCon and all, and will hopefully be using Marvel Legends cards to demo with.
The new frames honestly feel... I dunno, a bit werid. The lack of borders on the sides of the picture makes the image feel alot bigger though.
I'm fine with symbols concealed-optional, the symbols just don't seem to capture the right feel though.
Honestly, I think Reservist and Terraform (and maybe on-going) need similar treatment as Concealed-Optional (different border/symbol). Reservist and Terraform more so, since it fundamentally changes how you set up your hand/row.
And honestly I LOVE 3 ton boulder. Why? It's removal. Why? It's equipment. Whereas before you couldn't typically have MTG style-removal because it would be too strong, by placing ridiculously strong effects on equipment, you create an interesting little interaction between card types. Equipment, Equipment Removal, Characters.
I am very disappointed that 3 Ton Boulder is not combat phase restricted though, as removal won't be effective against it half the time.
OK dschneider I said I didn't want to play WOW. How ever I never said is sucks. I Love the new look. I have to agree with shamilton777 & Erick that I would have liked to see the Atk and Def on the same side but I hope this means New Blood into VS. I LOVE ME SOME VS.
