Just out of curiosity, it looks to me that almost all of you have run at lest one mafia game. So do you find you like playing them more than running them or vice a versa?
Larfleeze is my minion and Darkseid does my bidding!

I find running them to be more enjoyable, but it's because my game theory is all out of whack with what most people think, which leads to me doing scummy stuff that I think isn't scummy. That's part of why I'm trying to play in more, because I need to work on the social aspect of the games.
That, and running them just gives me the same feeling as running a LARP, just longer-term. Seeing what the players do and trying to figure out their motivations for things can make stuff seem hilarious. I've yet to have a game where I wasn't either laughing or swearing at someone at least once.
Have you tried Lunesta or Ambien. I used to use Lunesta while I was training myself to sleep better.
Anyhow, I'm home from work today with snow and a general lack of wanting to go. Rokk, how are things in Denver, heard it was worse down there.
Sonata is good if you can talk to a doctor. It isn't one of those ones where you have to get a full night's sleep to use to get to sleep.

Depends on the game...some games can be brutal and make you want to tear your hair out. Others can be really cool...and running them can be nice if you can get the roles just right...

I enjoy playing more. Honestly, the majority of my satisfaction with running a game comes from trying to shake people out of their "Lazy Mafia" playstyles. Like modkilling people after a single day/night of inactivity, secret mafia members, a complete lack of information gathering roles, etc.
My stance on gameplay comes from playing very basic games on other forums and in RL, where lynching people and establishing relationships with other players throughout a game, becomes the game itself, and your #1 source of information. I've never really been fond of the surge of information gathering roles HCR games have. So when I do run a game, that's what I typically focus on, is trying to reward that playstyle.
Which makes me a bad mod, in all honesty. It's running games with an agenda, and that's no good. So I've stopped doing it. I started Vanilla games with that in mind (Very few roles, no theme), and while I felt it worked well the first time, I eventually handed the reins over to Truffle Shuffle because I felt she'd handle it with far less bias than I was, and I wanted to play. And, of course, I pretty much ruined the first game after that by shouting down the cop and walking away with the victory.
Whereas when I do play (it's not often I do this either), it's kinda rewarding to test myself now and then to see if I can figure things out before X game phase. And if the going is good, then I keep playing until it stops again.

Reminds me of Doom's game...where the mafia was masoned with townies.
I used to strictly play mafia when i was on a few other sites. Then once i found out about mafia here i thought it would be easier to try and run a game here.
*sigh* The worst thing about modding is waiting for PMs from two more people, both of whom have been on since the night started... but haven't bothered to send in their action.

3) There are no mandatory roles... unless you are told your role is mandatory. If you do not PM me a target at night, I will assume you're not doing anything. However, it's better to just tell me you're doing nothing -- that way you don't make everyone else wait for you.
Could mail them though and see what's up. I know lately in most games I forget if I sent in an action or not...so I have to go and check my sent messages to see if I sent one or not.

I'm a better mod than I am a player so I prefer modding, but there are times when a perfect role lands in my lap and it makes me fall in love with playing all over again.
