Congrats. Car shopping sucks. I can never afford all the options I really want.
I went in with minimal options in mind.
#1 priority - It had to fit the dog crate.
Beyond that I only cared about having power locks and windows, cruise control, and a place to plug in my iPod.
Everyone around here kept trying to convince me to go for the AWD instead of the FWD. I did the math on that. I figured that the difference in price, plus the increased gas usage, plus the increased insurance would essentially work out to about $50 more per month.
My FWD Vibe had done perfectly fine for 11 years. There were perhaps 2 or 3 kinda hairy moments every winter, but otherwise it ran like a champ. (I should also note that a good portion of any issues I'd had could be attributed to the low profile rather than it only having FWD.)
Anyway, when all was said and done I figured that upgrading to AWD would mean that those otherwise hairy moments would be costing $200 each to prevent. No thanks.
The up or down side to the purchase (depending on your perspective) was that they gave me what I thought was a really good price on my trade, but it took no negotiating to get there.
Seriously, I did my research beforehand.
I figured that the bare minimum I'd accept was X. I'd have taken it but not have been happy about it.
I expected to get Y. I'd have been comfortable getting that and figured that's where we'd probably end.
My pipe-dream, high end expectation was Z. I walked in thinking that if I got that I would be getting a bargain.
Damn it if they didn't just offer me Z from the start. I decided not to quibble over that. I walked in having said I'd be happy with that number. The wife told me ahead of time that I was fooling myself and would be lucky to even get X. Win-win. I might have gotten them down, but it was where I wanted to be.
I can't tell you how much play AQ gets in our place.
That dude gets around!
Been listening to Iron Maiden's new album, and I'm liking it. It has a 7th son kind of vibe. My two favorite songs (at this time) are "If Eternity Should Fail", and "The Red and the Black".
