Also, I see a lot of Liao players giving a thumbs up. Not that that is particularly suspicious or anything. For all I know it could be a large coincidence, but come on, there are positives to this, which I have considered; but far more negatives. That is why I put my bid up for a big fat "NO!" to set retirement.
As probably the most rabid pro-liao player on this forum, I am not happy with the proposed set retirements. I have a lot of great pieces from earlier sets which will get rotated out. However, I understand the need for the rotation to create a sustainable game. It's been argued time and time again the problems with power creep. It's caused the failure of GURPS and the Shadowfist ccg's, two moderately popular games without a set retirement plan.
As far as why Liao players are less inclined to rant and rave about set retirement, you got us pegged (sorta). We aren't going to be brutalized as badly as the next guy this time around, but come the next retirement, we will be getting it right in between the cheeks. What you guys experience now is nothing compared to how badly Liao will get it in round two of set retirement. Furthermore, Liao players strike me as a pretty tolerable bunch (we're playing for a faction that has long been the laughingstock of CBT) and our natures allow us to take the challenge and adapt. Maybe this is an outlook some of the others might be advised to take.
I can understand all of that Wonderbread, but I doubt Liao is going anywhere. You are probably not going to take it too hard in the next retirement, as more pieces for Liao will be released. What we are seeing now, is a slow removal of the first factions.
