I don't know how other sites do this, but spoilers for VSRealms and the Yahoo Group are unpaid. The "payment" we get is being able to see the card first and do the initial investigation into how the card fits into the overall game.
When someone posts the spoiler and discusses this, it is taking this away from me. I am no longer Indiana Jones exploring uncharted territory. I'm Fred Jones standing in line with the rest of the crowd.

Leaking the text of a card prior to an article being released has NO negative impact whatsoever on the popularity of the article discussing that card.
And if a discussion has already taken place about the card? And all the points you were going to make have already been made?
I can hear someone saying "Come up with something new to say about the card." Sure. I'll also come up with something new to say about Bat-Signal, Puppet Master and Terra while I'm at it.

In fact, one could even argue, that spoiling the card before the article would BOOST interest in the article.
The card text is just a piece of information, while an article (hopefully) puts the card in context of the game, the universe, etc.
That's why they actually have 'free' preview chapters of books. No author would ever argue that they wouldn't want to increase interest in their work by 'hooking' a potential reader.
Not applicable. If you posted the equivalent for a card, it'd be something like "DJL-022 - Superman, Avatar of Peace", not "DJL-022 - Superman, Avatar of Peace (Rare): Team Superman/JLA, Flight/Range 17/16, Ally: Whenever a protected character you control becomes powered-up, it has invulnerability this attack. Leader: Characters adjacent to Superman have flight."

What it comes down to is this. If people are just reading a spoiler article for the card text, then they're not even going to remember your name, let alone read anything else you write about the card.
And on the other hand, if you're a good writer, people will read your stuff whether or not you actually have anything 'groundbreaking' to say.
Well, not all of us are professional writers. Some of us have day jobs, families and lives and fit this in when we can. For me, saying things that are 'groundbreaking' is my crutch that makes up for my inability to devote real time to writing up card previews.
Speaking of real work, it's time for me to get back to it.
Even If they are spoiled and I may or my not have seen it, Seeing the Artwork will still be christmas for me, stu.
I do have to agree that all the anticipation about new cards is taken away, negating that that new-car-smell-pre-release experience.:(
It's really unfortunate, this whole spoiler debacle. it makes UDE look like schmucks, and I really don't think that they are schmucks. But yeah, the spoiler is out, and whether you like it or not, there is no stopping it.
Like Abu Ghraib prison photos, some people think they shouldn't be seen, some think they should...but they're out there. Pointing fingers at people who post spoilers or info from the spoilers isn't going to help. It's too late for anything, except for UDE to be more careful about who has access to the spoilers in the future.
This phenomena is not exclusive to card games. The music industry suffers from bootleggers and advance copies and promos becoming "spoiled." It's tough to keep fanatics from finding out about the things they are fanatic about.
Get used to it. Information wants to be known. It's not our problem to police ourselves here. It's UDE's problem to keep its secrets secret.

All becuase a handfull of writers feel jipped?
Quoted for truth.
I have to wonder myself how much the impact of the rumors of certain players getting the spoiler early had on this whole scandal.
If you go to their site, you will see a Policy Update saying that UDE Members who fail to forward and destroy spoiler info on a new set (before official spoiler release obviously) within a 24 hour period will be suspended from play.
i think that it is a shame that the list got spoiled but thats happened, of course ive read it but i think rather than complain about how its unfair to the writers cause some one has leaked it eariler the writers should be looking at ude saying "what the hell happend!!".
Do ppl who are fans of the game want to see the list?? of cause they do if they didnt why would they be intrested in the game, and once some one has seen it of course there gunna spoil it they want to talk about it its natural, i jus hope that ude learn from this and try to keep better raps on there sets in the future.
