It's largely a reworking of the originals stage show, minus the Jelly Donuts musical numbers and the hypnosis act, with a couple character changes and fewer human characters in deference to more time spent with the puppet characters from the TV show. I was glad to see that they decided to write around Captain Carl - giving his key lines and plot elements to Cowboy Curtis - rather than recast Phil Hartman's part.
Yeah, I'd heard that. Who plays Cowboy Curtis? It isn't Laurence Fishburn is it? I'd be amazed (and excited) if he came back.

I remember enjoying that first book in the series, though it's been years since I read it and I never did get on to the later books. One friend made the mistake of waiting for and reading each one as it came out, so the growing stretches between books have been a point of complaint for him for years.
Yeah, it would be nice if the buzz around the TV should would motivate Martin, but it's more likely it will just distract him further. I used to mind the wait for the next book, but at this point I'm not really convinced another one is coming. The huge gap has me thinking he's painted himself into a corner and doesn't know how to elegantly resolve plotlines and keep the story moving. I suppose we'll see. I hope there's at least one more, but it's looking less and less likely.

I was thinking that at the time, too, but they went with Phil LaMarr. They did get back John Paragon (Jambi), John Moody (Mailman Mike) and Lynne Marie Stewart (Miss Yvonne), though.

I suppose I was thinking along the lines of HBO, if the series is successful, will want to follow through and will be looking for a complete series. You're most likely right, though.
Given that they cited production costs for Deadwood as the big reason that series was canceled despite how popular it was I found myself wondering why they went for a fantasy piece like this, which also requires them to have special sets, costumes and to maintain a stable of horses. I suppose they have a target in mind for number of new subscribers, along with straight ratings numbers.

That's interesting. Yeah, I had heard that a lot of the original cast was back. I was especially surprised to hear that John Paragon was going to be on it, since for some reason I was thinking that he had died several years ago.

And I realize I may have been a killjoy. I'm not happy about killing anyone's fun. I didn't say "I don't mean to be a killjoy, but. . ." I said I hate doing it. I do. But I don't let hating things stop me from doing them or the toilet would never get cleaned.
Well, I'd say that's kind of an odd stretch, but it's better than an ugly leap of faith.
...thus spake Sue Storm in discussing her preference for Reed Richards' embrace to Mortimer Toynbee's advances.

Number two ("No offense, but...") is the one I absolutely hate the most. I know a guy who uses it all the time, and whether he means to be offensive or not, often is. I've heard it for 5 or 6 years, and think I am getting better at ignoring it, but every time it makes me cringe.
Reminds me of an old bit from comedian Dom Irrera did about Italian Americans being able to say anything they wanted, no matter how horrible it was, simply by adding "but I don't mean in a bad way" to the end of the statement.
Confused :-s so this cute girl in my class came in late and sat one seat away from me instead of either up front or in the corner as she usually does, and she kept looking over at me(we were watching a documentary in the class) I don't understand :-s
Is this the same girl who touched your leg a few weeks ago? If so, I don't think you can get a much better sign unless she wrote it on posterboard.
On a very different note...regarding today's morbid race to be clever...it's just one good reason to make this my Radio-Free Day of the week.
Count me among those who never laughed at The One True Belushi's jokes -- wearing a house dress, a wig and wielding the inevitable chicken leg -- at Miss Taylor's expense. He was a funny and gifted man, but it's not lost on me that people who are less than attractive -- be it through physical appearance or spiritual scarring -- tend to work hard at ridiculing the more fortunate. I'm figuring that especially today, there will be no shortage of such folks to carry on and have a field day. But not for me.
Peace, Liz.
Just my two cents.
