I don't mind using a Foreman for some things. My Dad uses one a lot because it drains fat off well and he has a bad heart. I'd do chicken or fish on a Foreman, but our Iowa beef or pork... I'd rather cook it on a stick over a firepit (which some of us actually did during the first few days of the flooding in 1993). It's kind of the same thing as skillet frying hamburgers. You can get them to brown, but it's just not the same taste as over an open fire.
They weren't really enforcing our burning/open fire ordinances then...they had other issues to worry about.
We had power back within the first three or four days, but it was around 20 days before the water was back to being drinkable. New Orleans had it much worse in 2005.

I do use a grill pan on my stove, though, which I like more than the Foreman.
The only thing I use my Foreman for is Filet Mignon.

I had friends who were at ISU at the time, and they used to joke about what life was like at America's greatest undersea university. I guess they were lucky that the worst of it happened over summer break?
Yeah, my mom owned a janitorial company at that time. Our acct at the time was a realty office that got flooded. I remember the first few days after we finally were able to get back in. They had hired a company to do the nasty cleanup of mud and stuff but i still got to spend a few nights scrubbing the tile floors that they had laid just a few months before. Other then that it didnt effect me much except for being without running water for a few days. I was 13, i thought it was an adventure.

Oh yeah. And they got hit again a couple years ago... I have aerial shots where I used SnagIT to circle and point out my Cyclones football season pass parking spot when it was under water. Suprisingly it cleaned up pretty good. They had to replace the flooring in Hilton, keep a few of the grass parking lots closed for a few weeks that they normally use as overflow for cars, but the main lots didn't smell like a swamp by the first kickoff at Jack Trice.

Mash-Up is open again, by the way. And this is not a happy moderator. Be warned, I've been playing very nice lately, but that is not going to continue.
I want to say two seasons ago. I didn't have the money last year to donate the $250 (+ company match of $250) to qualify to purchase the parking pass. I had to park at Hilton and fork over the $20/game, walk an extra 100 yds, and tailgate with friends... No biggie. Saved a little over $100 to buy beer that way. LOL
I just realized, I probably gave up all hope of anonymity here when I created a play-by-post tool that was hosted on my domain... that uses my real name as the domain name... and uses my email address with my real name as the 'donate to' link...
*shrug* Kinda strange realizing there's an online community that knows who I am. But hey, it's you guys, I'm mostly okay with that.

I personally don't like people knowing who I am at all, but I guess it's okay.
I was once blamed for breaking up a marriage (a very loooong and pathetic story) over the internet, and had threats levied. I was very thankful to be able to run away from that situation with my name intact, and without anyone knowing where I lived.
I will not have that safety net if there was a repeat of that incident, and it makes me uneasy at times.
