To add insult to injury, I've had a bunch of playing experiences at various venues with You-Go-Blow! players stealing, screaming, stinking, and scuffling (there goes my alliterative string) while I've been trying to play Clix.
It does for my point which was that just because YuGiOh isn't high on Diamond's sales list doesn't mean it isn't high on other distribution sales lists.
But what do mass market stores like Target and Walmart that sell YuGiOh to kids that don't even play the game have to do with anything? You gave the list for the top mass market games (not just based on Diamond's numbers). YuGiOh was #2 HeroClix was #3.
To the individual, personal experience is the only evidence. You can BELIEVE otherwise, if you choose to do so, but if it is not backed up by your personal experience, then to continue to let your behavior be dictated by your belief and not your experience makes you insane.
I very much enjoy this post.
Longest-Reigning Drunken HeroClix Champion - anyone got a liver?

^This is why it isn't good to come into the middle or end of a discussion without having read all of the posts involved.
If you actually followed the back and forth you would have seen I was responding to a post that used Diamonds sales for the month of January to indicate that sales of YuGiOh were not that high compared to Heroclix and other games. I responded by showing a similar list that showed YuGiOh higher.
The whole point of the back and forth was to show that using statistics from a single biased source would not give you an accurate portryal of the market as a whole.
Hey buddy, looking for a good time? I can rent you a skanky Yugioh neckbeard by the hour.:speechles
I'd be curious to know how many stores you frequent. Magic, board games, and Heroclix are all bigger than Yugioh, from what I can tell. Look at the top 25 games from January 2013 (as reported by Diamond):
1. MARVEL HEROCLIX AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
2. DC HEROCLIX: BATMAN BOOSTER BRICK
3. PATHFINDER BATTLES: SHATTERED STAR BOOSTER BRICK
4. STAR TREK TACTICS HEROCLIX SERIES II
5. DC HEROCLIX: BATMAN STREETS OFGOTHAM
6. THE WALKING DEAD COMIC BOARD GAME
7. STAR WARS LCG CORE SET
8. MAGIC THE GATHERING TCG: RETURN TO RAVNICA BOOSTERS
9. STAR TREK TACTICS HEROCLIX SERIES II STARTER SET
10. MARVEL HEROCLIX: WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN
11. MARVEL HEROCLIX WOLVERINE & X-MEN TAB APP PACK
12. TICKET TO RIDE
13. MARVEL HEROCLIX MARVEL SUPERHEROES TAB APP PACK
14. STAR TREK CATAN BOARD GAME
15. RISK LEGACY
16. DC HEROCLIX NO MANS LAND MONTH 3 OP KIT
17. MARVEL HEROCLIX AMAZING SPIDER-MAN TAB APP PACK
18. YU GI OH TCG COSMO BLAZER BOOSTER DIS
19. WONDERLAND BOARD GAME
20. DOCTOR WHO MONSTER INVASION EXTREME TCG BOOSTER DS
21. YU GI OH TCG 2012 COLLECTIBLE TIN CASE WAVE 2.5
22. TICKET TO RIDE EUROPE
23. DOCTOR WHO 50TH ANNIVERSARY ED MONOPOLY
24. SETTLERS OF CATAN NEW ED CITIES & KNIGHTS EXP
25. FUTURAMA COLLECTORS ED MONOPOLY
Look at this top 25 list. Heroclix hold 6 of the top 10 slots alone. From the 25:
10 are Heroclix Products.
1 is Magic the Gathering.
2 are Yugi-Oh (coming in at 18 and 21).
9 are board games.
3 are other tcg or miniature products.
And you think that Yugioh makes up 70% of games sales? Based on the numbers, probably not.
Well, first of all, I'm from Argentina, and here, we don't see all the steal and problems that Yugioh playeres made in USA, I picture it was totally different there (so, sorry for my unpolite english).
So, no Pathfinder, no Dr. Who, no "Ticket to ride". So, i can say:
Yugioh
Pokemon
Heroclix
Magic
WOW
Board Games.
By the way, i can believe all the "thief" situation and stuff you suffer there.
To the individual, personal experience is the only evidence. You can BELIEVE otherwise, if you choose to do so, but if it is not backed up by your personal experience, then to continue to let your behavior be dictated by your belief and not your experience makes you insane.
I'm not sure what implications you are trying to make here, but this is not even remotely true as a blanket statement. No one could ever teach anyone anything if it was and people would only ever learn from doing. I can assure you, not everyone learns from doing. So my behavior is very much so dictated by my beliefs. Those beliefs are backed by my experiences, but also the experiences of others and the knowledge I have gained from various sources.

All of these emotional and drama-queen posts (about what will amount to a very small percentage of the HeroClix lineup) are top notch entertainment.
Please continue to regale me with tales of fights and thieves and boycotting and sales and all of that other nonsense. Please refrain from realizing or remembering that these figures are going to come and gonrelatively quickly, and we'll all be excited about the next set with Wolverine or Batman. At that point in time we can complain about how WizKids can never seem to get those dials accurate.
So tell me again, why don't you like Yu-Gi-Oh? How is it bad for HeroClix?

I've been giggling this whole entire thread. Now I'm just downright laughing my butt off.

Or better yet, complaining about how Wizkids keeps making the same characters over and over...

Yeah, same here. I'm indifferent to Yu-gi-oh, but my main reaction is to just laugh.
But you can extrapolate what powers Legolas or even the Star Trek ships might have, because in their respective source material, Legolas and the Star Trek ships actually do something.
The problem with the Yu-Gi-Oh monsters is that, even in the source material, whether it's in the game or the manga or the shows, they don't actually do anything. Sure, they stand around a looking awesome, and can wipe out opponent monsters in a single blast, but that's about it.
So what kind of dial would you come up with for someone like, say Summoned Skull (classic Yu-Gi-Oh monster)? Sure, he's got armour and wings, so there's that. But what else you give him? Would he have any range? Super Strength? Battle Fury? Hypersonic Speed?
The problem is that, with absolutely nothing to go on, they'd just be spitballing here. We have no idea how this character would play, what his fighting style is. The game designers would have to pull this 100% out of their ###.
Nothing wrong with that, they managed to do it pretty well for three sets of Horrorclix. They had some incredibly creative things in that game, the YGO set could easily go the same way.

Yes, that's how we learn.

That's called Faith.
Nevertheless i agree with you. Individual certainly can't experience everything first hand and has to have "faith" in what is teached by peers/family. I do.
As a matter of fact, it is the same mecanism : parents teach things to their children, they don't listen, they get burnt, next time they listen... So it's also some kind of first hand experience : we need faith, but don't need to have blind faith. Somehow, being teached something is ALSO a first-hand experience of a kind.
But i had to point out that knowledge (including Scientific one) is a form of belief/faith. People too often think it's some kind of "universal" truth. Most of the time they are just "current understanding/theory". That's why i will always be questionning and doubting.
Even if experiencing something "first hand", i still keep room for doubt and questionning, because i can have a limited or biased perception of the events. Personal experiences are rarely representative of the *whole* reality. Yet i agree with the idea that it is the ONLY thing we have to build our judgement. Hence why i had to quote you both, and partly agree and disagree with both of you.
Many things we (as humanity) take for truth are simplified/incomplete information these days. Many sources are questionables (especially on the internet) and we can reasonably doubt what is told (or teached) to the masses.
World is a tough place to live in. Medias, Governments, Lobbys and even scientific communities aren't friendly entities. Why would they tell us the truth ? They evolve in a world governed mostly (if not solely) by profit. The only way to keep someone/yourself/myself safe is to be doubtful/critic/careful.
The only thing you can know is a fact. The ones you know for sure are the ones you witnessed. And even then, there is room for interpretation of what your senses have perceived. Everything else is belief, or sometimes even opinion. But it's commonly hard for a human being to accept that. Because our brains aren't really welcoming the insecurity of this.

Could it be a Duvet statement? How about a Comforter statement?
I never said that people only learned from doing. I said that to the individual, personal experience is the only evidence. You can BELIEVE otherwise, if you choose to do so, but if it is not backed up by your personal experience, then to continue to let your behavior be dictated by your belief and not your experience makes you insane.
Part of your personal behavior can be learning through direct teaching. And through that learning, you may come to believe certain things. But if those things hold no basis in reality, and you continue to believe them and let them shape your behavior, then you're in a very dangerous place.
Have you read 1984?
I teach people every day. It's what I do. As opposed to most teachers I have taught a wide range of subjects to a wide range of students in a wide range of settings. When I teach someone to ride a snowboard, I tell them to put their weight on their front leg with the nose of the board pointed downhill. Many people come to me with prior board experience (either surf or skate) or the basic human instinct to lean backwards when they want to slow down. If they ride using those beliefs the laws of physics and basic kinesiology are literally going to smack them in the face. It doesn't matter what they believe.
Nothing wrong with that, they managed to do it pretty well for three sets of Horrorclix. They had some incredibly creative things in that game, the YGO set could easily go the same way.
I agree with this post and would like to adress the post this comment was replying to.
I wouldn't say there is nothing to go on; atk, def, abilities, flavor text (occasionally), related cards, and visible ques provide some background. For instance, Summoned Skull should have high attack (say starting 11) and lowinsh def (in numbers or powers). Likewise i imagine summoned skull would have Pentrating Psychic blast (as his attacks are typically some sort of lightning blast, which is fequently P/PB in heroclix.
It's a bird, it's a plane, no! It's That Guy!
