For me it has always come down to how he treated his son who was the loyalist. Franklin loudly talked about personal freedom, and the importance of family (which he did not see a conflict at all with his infidelity) and yet he disowned his son for choosing the King over the Revolution. Franklin never spoke of him again even so far as pretending he had never even had William.
The story's more nuanced than that, but I have always found that episode a marked blemish on an Enlightened Man.
I do know about that, but I still don't think "hypocrite" is anywhere near the top of a list of adjectives I think of when I think of Franklin.

But "hypocrite" doesn't rate. It's a blemish, not a defining feature.
mich was on with more than half and didn't bother to offer anything up. I wouldn't be opposed to lynching him, and barring that, giving him nighttime attention.
Huh. That was a touch irritating, trying to write up a post and having the site break down for a moment right in the middle.

We did get "Mikhail Kalashnikov" and "Eva Peron" last game, as well as someone who dared to go with L. Ron Hubbard. It's a more obscure choice, but I could see someone listing the likes of 'Johnnie Cochran' as a pick.

Whose historical contributions would you rather celebrate?
And is everybody thinking that mich's Spanish Inquisition is Mafia?
I think you're putting more weight into wrestling and the historical value of Mr. Savage than most if not everyone here.
I get that you're a big fan of the guy, but you really need to consider perspective and your own personal bias on this whole thing.
