Speaking of teaching kids things, Emily wants to hear Superman stories at least twice a week at bedtime but....there aren't a lot of 2 year old appropriate Superman tales.
Stopping bad guys works, vaguely, but actually explaining kidnapping, bank robbery or killer robots is too violent. Even saving people from fires involves explaining the concept of burning buildings. Mostly, Superman saves cats from trees, tells bad guys "no no" and flies around with cars (she watched the beginning of the Toyman episode with the bouncy ball and toy planes).

Just tell her stories about a cool, interesting superhero instead.

A tabletop game I have to recommend while we are talking about games is Sentinels of the Multiverse. Their last expansion is coming out this summer (I hope). It's a card game. Each deck is a different hero. The villain deck goes first with a script. Then each hero takes a turn playing a card, using a power and drawing a card. Then Environment deck goes with a script. It's cooperative so it's great for younger kids who might need help reading, but want to participate. Lots of diverse heroes with analogues for just about anyone you can think of, plus some completely original stuff too.
Each expansion just adds more flavor to the universe.
My disdain and hatred for the game aside, it probably would be good for kids.

I'm not a big fan of co-ops in general. Just not my style with Battlestar Galactica being an exception and that mostly for the skin. If I'm going to play co-op, I'll just go with a straight up RPG. I don't care for the artwork at all. It also suffers from the "King of Tokyo" aspect for me which is a bunch of people I know really liked it so I was forced to play it a lot initially and it never lived up to the hype. I gave it another go several months ago and I still couldn't get into it.
The mechanic is ok, but if you draw a bad hand there's very little recourse. There's just too much luck for my taste between the player decks and the villain/environment decks. Throw in the style and a skin that I don't like and I'm just not a fan.
As for why I don't like co-ops, too many cooks in the kitchen. I want a game where my turn is my turn. I also enjoy being able to out-think/out-play other players at the table. "Great Western Trail" is a great game for many of the reasons that Sentinels isn't one for me. Strategy, tactics, a swizzlestick worth of luck, deck-building, reacting to other players, it's awesome.
To each their own and I would recommend folks try Sentinels, but it's not for me.

Yeah, I'm not a huge Sentinels fan either, mainly because I prefer to deckbuild in those cases, though I love co-op games. Honestly, I prefer them to competitive games more and more lately, as some of the people in my group of gaming friends is just too freaking competitive. It's draining to deal with.
(Especially when you're me and you get on a hot streak in games. After winning the fourth game in a row I almost felt like I had to apologize because I was getting death stares from the One Guy Who Must Always Win.)

The complaint I've heard over and over about Sentinels is that it plays itself. Each hero has a strategy and there's little reason to deviate from it. I like the art and co-ops just fine but I've not picked up Sentinels for this reason.
The essence of a good game is interesting decisions. That's why I like mafia, BSG, Rebellion, Twilight Struggle. There are often many many good moves and rarely only one move you can reasonably make. The choice is interesting.
