I dunno, I was a little disappointed with it. From the cliffhanger of 49 and the cover of 50, you basically knew everything that would happen in this issue. The background story for Cecil was interesting, but they neglected to cover an important item: WHY did Cecil change his mind on the ethics of using bad guys? We're shown that yes, he does change his mind, but there's no inner turmoil, no debate. It just seems a little too convenient, and I wish they'd used the Science Dog pages to flesh out the Cecil segment more.
Um, its possible I'm missing something, but Cecil didn't change his mind. I don't have the issue in front of me, but I did look at it last night and Cecil is still going to use bad guys. He doesn't even care if the guradians of the globe quit.
He has one job to do and he is going to do it. He doesn't care about any moral issues, as long as he does his job. Its true he did say when Invincible was getting killed, "what have I done?" or something like that, but he didn't really reform.
I do agree that the Science Dog stuff wasn't needed at all and I would have liked to see more story as well, but that doesn't make this a bad issue.
And as far as the cover telling the whole story, um Cecil is a bloody mess on that cover and Invincible stands triumphant. That didn't happen in this issue. Cecil never got bloody, and Invincible wasn't really winning at all. And also, the whole Atom Eve thing, though we knew it was going to happen sometime, we certainly couldn't tell that just from the cover.
Sorry you didn't enjoy the issue, but I don't know, its possible you were being a bit harsh. Or maybe I wasn't being harsh enough who knows.
All I know is I'm happy Eve and Mark are together. And I'm hopeful that Invincible will just get better and better.

no, you're just blinded by your love for Kirkman!
Spud's right. they didn't explain why he changed his mind. on one page he's in prison holding on to his ethics and then on the next he's talking about making deals with the devil. this does not make sense. in fact, those extra pages are a complete waste of time since they don't actually show us the key moment that changed Cecil's mind about using villains as soldiers.
even the way Cecil acted in the main story had me scratching my head:
"I'll kill you if i have to."
"Oh, no. I almost killed you!"
"Ah, listen, if you get in my way... i'll kill you!"
dude, shut up, Cecil! you totally lost all credibility when you wussed out and called off the zombies. there's no way Mark can be expected to take anything you say seriously after that.
Bruce Castle Archives: Hellboy Seed of Destruction
Something I like to do, as I’m sure a lot of you do, is reread old comics when their new movie is coming out. I reread 300 when that movie came out. I reread some Iron Man comics when Iron Man was coming out and so on. In honor of the new Hellboy movie coming out, I’m going to try and review all 8 Hellboy trades before the movie comes out. So here it is, the first Hellboy trade...
I Refuse to Come Up with a Quirky Title for These Mini Reviews

Eternals #1 (***1/2) Secret Invasion: Who Do You Trust? (****) Captain Britain and MI:13 #2 (****1/2) Green Lantern Corps #25 (*****)
Awesome. I like that no matter what I feel about DC, I’ve got Green Lantern Corps (and once the Secret Origins arc ends, Green Lantern). I enjoy the internal logic of this book. It makes sense that Mongul would be a yellow lantern. And furthermore, it also makes sense that Mongul would realize that he could hijack the Black Mercy to further his own nefarious deeds. But what I didn’t expect was getting a larger background on the Black Mercy itself, given through telepathy by “Mother Mercy.” And it’s cool.
On top of the hundred or so comics I read every month, I also go through quite a few trade paperbacks. Recently, I started picking up Ex Machina in trade. I’ve finished the first five trades so I guess it’s about time I talked about them.

and the Science Dog back-up sucked.
Well, it is possible I am blinded by my love for Kirkman. Although he has been making even me mad a bit lately. So is this whole Cecil thing in the back up then? Because I don't remember seeing it in the regular issue and I even wrote a review on it, but I didn't go into detail about the back stories.
I agree the back stories, especially the Science Dog one, weren't that great. But they weren't even part of the issue! The issue I felt was really good. Lots of fun and yes, another reason I may be blinded to this issue's crappyness, is that Mark and Eve got together. But I really liked this issue.
Oh well, sorry you all didn't. Hopefully Kirkman will make you happy again in the next few issues. He did promise the next 50 issues would be way better. I hope he is right.
they were printed in the back, weren't they?!?! i paid for them, didn't i??!?!?!
Yes they were. But they weren't part of the story!
You can say that the issue was good and the back stories were awful. That is fine. But don't say that an entire comic was trash just because some of it was bad. They weren't even part of the same story!
Anyway, I loved the first 24 pages of this comic! That is my opinion. So lets stop the fighting and take a moment to be sad that Garth Ennis is leaving Punisher in a few months. I think that is something we can all agree on.

dude, i've been sad for months.
are you gonna stop picking it up once he leaves the book?
Yes I’m a guy and I’m reading Anita Blake. Get over it. I’ve actually enjoyed this series a lot. I had never read the books before because I’m illiterate, but I remember I saw the first issue and Brett Booth’s art looked great. I like Ron LIm a lot too because of his work on Thanos, like in Infinity Gauntlet. So this comic looks good at least.
This issue is the first in an arc about Brainiac. It’s penciled by Gary Frank who does a great job. You really get an old school sci-fi feeling out of the book that is perfect for Brainiac. Not a whole lot happens in this issue. That’s ok because there is enough to make you wanting more. There are also plenty of moments dealing with the characters that make you laugh and feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I disagree. Science Dog was filler, but the Cecil Stedman segment was DIRECTLY related to what happened in the main story. It's part of the issue, and I feel it diluted the punch of the main story-- instead of Cecil appearing badass and determined, he now looks wishy-washy and desperate.
I don't think IV#50 was a bad comic-- if this was issue 56, I'd feel much better about it, because it stands quite well as a standard issue. But I kind of expected more out of a milestone issue; sure, there were shakeups, but there was no real shock to any of it. I think it would've been better served if the cliffhanger to #49 was simply Mark busting into the Pentagon and Cecil making a sinister comment about being ready for this, and pushing a button, and then SOMETHING comes at Mark and scares him, but we can't see what it is. And then on the issue 50 cover, show Mark drowning in a sea of zombie limbs. I just felt like they showed way too much way too far in advance (sure, Mark doesn't beat Cecil UP like on the cover, but he does defeat him, more or less, and physically dominates him into backing down), which robbed the milestone issue of the impact it should've had.
Well, I might be easy to please when it comes to Invincible, but I'm over critical when it comes to Superman, and I have to say that Geoff Johns on Superman has been the best thing to happen to the Character since Superman the Movie. He captured the hear of his inspiration when pairing him with the Legion, and now we see the classic sci-fi element of the character coming forward in this Brainiac story. I can't wait to see how it unfolds.
