Based on the Street Fighter precedent it will be if it sells well. And my guess is that it will sell well.

It became legal because I, and my Gripe-O-Minions, beefed about it in enough threads.
TRUE STORY
If you want LotR to be legal, you will need to officially petition since we don't care that much about it at this point.
I think it had more to do with GoW and Halo had different rules for Epic actions and granades. Since Street Fighter didn't have that machanic built in, it was simple to make it modern.
As LoTR's also has the Epic mechanic in its rules, I assume that it will follow the GoW/Halo ruling and not be modern age.
Playing against the 9-year old again? That kid was pretty darn good at GenCon. I forgot the nickname you guys have for the kid, but it was well deserved.
For the record, he is 12. Maybe 13 now. His name is Owen. We call him The Boy Wonder.
But no, I was actually referring to Brad. I almost never beat that guy, even when I have a superior team. Either I make mistakes or the dice Gods rain down upon me. I am batting around .100 lifetime against that guy.

If that's the case though then why did Street Fighter start golden age? Why not just debut it as modern and avoid the controversy?

How many attacks did I make last time I played against Starro? Oh yeah. One. It did one damage, then he Mind Controlled me into walking back to my starting area over and over and over and over and over and then I lost. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN YOU GUYS.
This following a game where Starro Mind Controlled a team into walking into the open air on the Avengers roof map over and over and over. Woooo balance.
Sounds like you were playing a real dink. I've played with the starro that I own...ONCE
I knew we were going to be playing a game at our venue where it was 1,000 points and every team had to have at least ONE colossal. I had paid for him and wanted to try him out. We play multi-player games a lot, so I figured that with three other colossals on the board it would be more even...Boy was I wrong! They did a lot of damage to me, but I healed most of it back time and time again. That is one of the most unbalanced and crazy figures in the game. I apologized to my opponents not having known that the beat down was going to be that bad. I gave my prize to the first person out of said game.

Brad : Tat :: Jonna : Tpchid
I can't explain it, but Jonna has the best luck of her life against me with dice. It happens again and again.
I have witnesses to the madness. The Friday night when Rob, Jonna and I went to Haven's venue I played against Jonna and she rolled 9 straight Super Senses roles against me, including the first 8 being all 6's. To make matters worse, she was switching dice (not always the same one being rolled from her pair) and even rolled one of mine and got a 6.
To make this worse, my dice typically roll poorly against her, but not to the degree that hers roll well.
We have gotten to the point that when we are facing each other it becomes funny to see how it will play out.

I'm sure it was probably a case of wanting to present a unified front of having all the "Fringe" licenses be on the same page. Then the Gripe-O-Minions got at them and Wizkids buckled.

Good question. I attributed it to WK wanting to avoid licensing issues with DC and Marvel for a product called "Hero"clix. Once fans clammoured for it to be modern and they were sure it wouldn't effect their licensing the change was made.
Plus, they also knew they had lots of these other non-hero lines coming and were trying to set a precedent. That precedent wasn't needed once they could delineate by the rules the figures play by (standard or special rules).
<Not based on any real info, just my thoughts on how it played out.>
Just read Fear Itself #7 and am very much regretting seeing it through to the end. Easily the worst "event" book I've ever read, hands down. Just...no point whatsoever.
Longest-Reigning Drunken HeroClix Champion - anyone got a liver?
I'm glad I didn't use a stronger name than dink, then. I'd call my own brother a dink if he was mind controlling people to walk away from him instead of at least making a fight out of it.

I have had similar experiences playing against Jonna. I just wish I had more opportunities to play again my northern Illinois friends and family. I'd gladly take a regular beat down in order to get to game with you guys more often.

You go kidnap Munchoboy, I'll hypnotize him and make him tell us the real deal.
No disintegrations.

That's too bad. The premise was sound, I guess. Still didn't make me even slightly interested in picking it up, but I never would have guessed that it would be worse than Secret Invasion.

Oh, there was fighting happening. But it was once every third turn, after I moved into range, got moved back, pushed to move into range, got moved back, and then the actual attacking happened as I was pushed. Then I cleared and got moved back.
