After reading this thread I want to address this statement.
A few years ago myself and some friends attended GenCon, this was our first experience attending a clix game of this magnitude at a major convention and we were sorely disappointed. The disorganization of Wizkids was obvious to everyone, in fact people running booths around the Wizkids booth were taking pictures and laughing at the mad rush of people trying to get their special con exclusives, the pushing and shoving was out of control. Not only were the lines to get to the Wizkids booth for con exculsives out of control, the lines to actually sign up and get started in BR rounds and other events on day one was a joke.
So you are saying that people in attendance should voice their concerns to the Wizkids employees? Well guess what, we did! We spoke to every single person we could that worked for Wizkids about going back to the lottery ticket system to get con exclusives that had worked so well at Comic Con a few years before. Everyone who wants to buy exclusives gets a raffle ticket, then twice a day Wizkids would pull the lottery ticket and if your number came up, you got to purchase the LE figures. We also suggested that Wizkids have an employee gather the people who were waiting outside the main doors to rush their booth and start a separate line in the hallway so that people who were just there for the convention didn't get trampled. These were two simple and logical way to prevent the mass confusion that is constantly happening at these events, and we know it keeps happening because every major event one of these threads pops up.
The organizational problems that Wizkids has had, and continue to have at major events are easily solvable yet these threads keep happening because Wizkids refuses to solve their issues. So for you to suggest that people "go talk to them and offer a solution" is unrealistic at best because time has proven that nothing will change the way Wizkids approaches these events, and first hand data seems to suggest that the people you could talk to will just shrug off your advice and send you on your way.
No. I'm saying call it out wherever you like, but personal insults won't get you very far or help with a solution in any format.
I know full well what talking to them can or can't get you. It does tend to turn on the processor, though. If you go to them all upset and angry it's the same as anything else - you tend to not get a good response. If you go to them with a reasonable attitude, you tend to get a better response. I say "tend" because I've seen it work both ways. Still, positive is positive and negative is negative.
I understand the frustration. I've lived it. However, a bunch of one-off conversation with Wizkids employees X, G, U, B and F probably isn't going to provide the proper "first hand data" for them to make the changes we want to see. I do think the sheer volume of conversations along these lines by this point should maybe have made a dent in this endemic problem, but evidently not. It's not like anybody takes notes when they are getting feedback, though, and that is something Wizkids organized play should start doing, so that they can filter the responses, go back and make changes.
In my opinion (which I haven't really stated because that wasn't my original point -), too much is left to the discretion of the man on the ground. I think systems should be put into place for this kind of thing. Problem with that theory is none of these people running events are paid employees - they are volunteers compensated with product. Kind of hard to get people to follow a system that encourages compliance with the overall goal of customer service as a form of marketing when so much of it is based on self-serving behavior. It relies on somebody who actually cares as a volunteer to take up a cause that might not even get followed or listened to by the company. That leaves the distinct possibility of "meh".
There needs to be a poll question about this, but to those who went I ask; Would you do it again based on your experience? Especially to those who went for the very first time.
i'll never do it again. especially seeing as you HAVE to play in both qualifiers, and there aren't even enough slots!! i was prepared and in line to register but it didn't happen. they cut the 10am off. oh well. live and you learn!!
@antonio.clark.art is my instagram.take a look and tell me what you think....be blessed!!!
EDIT: the teacher gave me a look right after my little burst that had me fearing I'd be sent out to the hall like I was still a kid somewhere in k-12 lmao
After reading all this, I'm glad I had to work both days. Even though they were pretty crappy, even by work standards, it sounded like I was saved a gigantic head ache by not going to Nationals.

Look, even with everything that happened it was still a good time.
I had two insanely bad boosters for both pods of qualifiers. I showed several players what I opened afterwords and they all agreed how truly horrible they were. I never heard about the combined record as this was my first nationals and I didn't find out about it until after I dropped from the first pod. In the second pod I again had some horrible boosters (while everyone around me opened pure gold) I then had a horrible ruling go against me (I forgot I could appeal to a higher judge) and I'd still do it again.
For those wondering it was ruled against me that my opponent could Outwit Lex Luthor with a character who did not begin the turn adjacent to him. It cost me the match and my shot at top cut...
Again though, I'd still do it all over again. I just view it as a learning experience for Origins.
The only thing I'm really disappointed in was not having the time to do Battle Royals to get the Avengers ID cards. I would have loved to score all three of them, but sadly I didn't have the time.

Didn't you tell the Judge who you were?

, I actually didn't tell anyone who I was lol. Some people figured it out (damn lucky hat having Dragon on it which was not very lucky at all!).
With the judge I'm so used to always just going with what the judge rules (even when I know he's wrong) that I just forgot that at a higher level event I could appeal.

I drove down from philly on saturday morning, got in around 9am and saw the huge line. It was very mismanaged with only one line for everything. There are a number of better ways to handle this that I am not going to go into here. I am glad that they gave all pre-reg people a coupon to get the purchasable before everyone else. Having BR's and Exclusives in the same line has upsides and downsides. I wish they would have extended the time before the purchasable to general sale as it was stressful to run and grab mine between rounds.
In the first qualifier I played Johnny Quick, Timber Wolf, and Ocean Master. I probably would have played Superwoman or someone else over Timber Wolf had I known CSA was uncopyble. That was my first mistake. I won my first game, but then lost in round two to Orion and Sinestro. I took out sinestro, but couldn't do enough damage to orion to overcome the healing.
Once I lost the second round I told the judge I wanted to drop. He said, "Are you sure? We are going by cumulative record for the top 32." I was not playing in the second qualifier so I was happy to drop. Me and a buddy played team Battle Royals all day. We went 6 and 2 for the day, combined that with the 2-1 I went in solo BR's and I had a good day. I also won one of the raffles.
My final haul from BR's was (Excluding booster pulls)
1 Animal Man
2 Krampus
2 Spider Ham
1 Vampire Batman
2 Ares ID Cards
2 Daredevil ID Cards
1 Shang-Chi ID Card
From the Raffle I won:
The Wierd
Animal Man
Felix Faust
Brainiac Skull Ship
All that combined with getting all 4 purchasable relatively easily made it a fun weekend. Once the initial shock of the mismanagement of initial registration was over, I felt it was adequately managed and had a great time.
The misspelled "Wizkids" is a perfect example of complaining for the sake of complaining. It's a typo buried in legal text notifying participants of filming, but it was made out of be some horrendous embarrassment rather than a small mistake.

Personally this was my first event like this. But my friends and I had a blast. I had horrible pulls in both qualifiers but that is the danger of sealed competition. I had also never played in a battle royale and I did that the whole time on the second day. Also did not win any of these but I got some cool stuff from them. I met some really cool people and some people who take the game way toooooo seriously. But all in all my friends and I all agreed if it comes this close to us again we would definitely enter and go again.

True, but in the greater context of things, such mistakes are not uncommon for Wizkids which I think is why it was given more attention than it should have gotten.
Here's a few pics I took. Just a sampling of my two days. Traveled from Texas, had fun, hello to everybody we talked to at the Hampton Inn. Came with Matknuck.
I played in both qualifiers, I preregistered for the morning, did poorly, happened to be at the pay table when another guy (Mark) was asking about refund for the afternoon (as he was already qualified), he could only swap it. I gave him the $30 and we swapped badges.
I faired even worse (am I detecting a trend here?), so badly I got The Weird as a fellowship prize.
I took the one "selfie" because I think the guy in the background (don't remember his name) was the one player there that was older than me.
I got a full set of Id Cards with an extra Daredevil playing BRs on Sunday, including a team BR that one of my qualifier opponents asked me if I wanted to be an impromptu team (we have very similar last names). That was fun Joshua.
Got all the for sale LE's including an extra Brainiac Skull Ship and Kree Super Intelligence.
Got back home around 10:30 last night. Got to get back to work.

Remember, there's always something cleverer than yourself.

Did anyone actually complain about it? I just thought it was funny.
Tbh, I really don't care if you "still had a good time" when the event is only like an hour or two away. Not to be especially rude to the people saying it, but I don't think that's really in question. If the trips going to only be a mild inconvenience, then of course you'll have fun playing some Clix and getting Con LEs. But it was still run terribly from those I've heard from.
With how much money, time, and dedication goes into this from the players venturing across the country, professionalism and organization shouldn't be considered a courtesy or privilege...it should be considered an expected inclusion with your purchase. The cut to two rounds on day 2 is so insane. With 33+ players (EDIT: I've since been told it was only 32), you not only had to go 2-0, you needed good points. Assuming they didn't extend Top 16 as well. So if you travelled to go to one of the WKOs, won, and got your reserved spot in Day 2? Well, you could apparently go out to MD, win your only 2 games for the main event and still not make it in.
That just doesn't seem right. Nothing against the winning player or anything, but at what point do event organizers #### up an event enough to take away the prestige (EPISODE 10 OUT NOW) of that event?
It's just painful hearing about this with: a. how well the West Coast ROC events are run, b. West Coast still getting snubbed by WK, and c. West Coast players expected to travel across the country for that kind of service/organization.
