Unless the envoy running the event specifically says so, Reengineered laser cuts through the armor like hot knife through butter.
The dropship ignores Armour Piercing. Reengineered Laser is not AP, even if it provides basically the same ability.
Though I would assume (since it must be an unrestricted to support the point cost of the ship) the envoy might just decide to group reengineered laser and AP together as SE's that the Dropship ignores.
But the under 600 point base I posted does not use Reengineered Laser anyway.
While it's early to speculate, and too late to change anything, the only unit I really hope to see in the next set is a JF cap3 transport which can rival the merc zahn for our tank drops.

A JF Heavy.
No, seriously. That's _it_. JF is as close to complete as any faction in play.
We have studly infantry (EBA, GBA, SBA, Sniper Teams).
We have nasty tanks (Kelswa, Glory, Mars, Sekhmet).
We have arty (god do we have arty: Sniper, Hadur, Long Tom, TTL, SM2).
We have anti-arty (Shamash).
We have a solid non-unique pilot (JF Star Commander).
We have good lights (Blade, Jaguar)
We have good mediums (Goshawk, need I say more?).
We have good assaults (Black Rose is insane, the Zeus is merely very very good).
Our unique pilot has two rides (many faction leaders are jammed into one mech due to requirements; Hazen can pilot Black Rose or the Zeus).
We have unique beatsticks (Black Rose).
We have non-unique beatsticks (Goshawk and Zeus).
Sure, some things could be better (like the Shamash) but our arty is god-like (seriously, it takes effort to miss with a Sniper or Hadur and the TTLs aren't too bad either) and the Goshawk/Black Rose bump of Firepower was great.
As you note, the only thing we miss is a 3 Cap and a JF heavy for using all that great Heavy gear (heavies are currently better than assaults because of that). A JF Jade Hawk or Loki would rule (Thors blow :)) but even then we can take the GS Jade Hawks.
A battlemaster would be cool :grin: but other then the 2 I listed I agree with Highdancer we need heavy's, Jade Hawks would definatly be a nice addition to our forces. :grin:

and no Cap3 transport, ever, will rival the merc Zahn. they have made that mistake too much already - expect cap3's to be faction-specific, expensive and 8" move or less - kinda like the R10.
For JF heavies just use Blitz. Its cheap enough to get one to keep in wolf's dragoons colours, and one to paint up Jade Falcon.
The Ursas are not that bad. I may not field them but at least I feel that the JF Ursa is still one of the better Ursas. Under hindering or jungle, you can get a 23 or 24 defense mech with decoy---and that decoy isn't from a card but built into the dial.
In contrast I find the Eyries and Gyrs, which were okay when F Prey set was introduced, to be unplayable in today's kill environment. They have a hard time even when facing light mechs with high attack values.

I would expect something a bit more akin to the DF R10 which is a bit quicker than the others. The JF version (extrapolating here) would have a high attack, low range and possibly a somewhat inferior DV (though not so much lately). Say, 2 damage, 10 move, 9 attack, 19 or 20 DV. The problem with the Merc Zahn isn't just the speed (which isn't bad at all) but the Evade.
As for the heavies, sure there are GSes to use, but it'd be nice to get a faction specific one. Say, the pipedream JF heavy...

Well, they didn't start with JJs. IIRC, you could add jump jets to omnis just fine (but goodness knows I'm not an expert there). My personal Loki build is 2 ER LL, 2 ER ML, 2 LRM 15s with Jump Jets, Targeting Computer and Artemis IV. Oh, and lots of heat sinks. :)

Well in either case, I'd love to see a decent jump capable ranged combat mech platform that could thrive in the post AOD environment. In other words something that does more than 3 damage, has more than a 10 inch range and more than a 19 defense.
