But you can't charge away from someone without breaking away can you?
And if not, why is that different since it is a power action to? I mean you can't move OR do a ranged action adjacent to someone usually but it seems a power action changes that
I guess I'm just confused in the difference

Honestly, it was a mistake made when the re-made the rulebook back in Indy, and it held over when they made the Universe Rulebook.
I've been mentioning this loophole over and over for the last year or so, hoping someone would pick up on it and FAQ it to what it should be, but no luck so far.
Honestly, all it would take is a simple change of one word, but so far, my cries have gone unheeded.
Good luck trying to pull this off in a tourney. Most judges will rule that you can't do this...
"If a character occupying a square adjacent to one or more opposing characters moves as a result of being given a move or power action, that character must attempt to break away..."
Now the power action that is used for RCE does not require movement. The power action that is used for Charge does so you still have to break away.
But I don't see where it says you can't attack opponents with ranged attacks if you are adjacent to another opponent? Can someone point me to something like a wizkid link or something that shows this?
RANGED COMBAT
Ranged combat represents ranged attacks such as thrown bombs, power rings, machine guns, energy blasts, and mind attacks.
Every character has a range value printed on its base. This the maximum number of squares that a character’s ranged attack can reach. If the range value is greater than 0 and your character is not in base contact with an opposing character, then you may give your character a ranged combat action. A character can attack in any direction, regardless of the direction it is facing.
So being adjacent to an opposing figure only prevents you from assigning this figure a ranged combat action. RCE is a power action and thus doesn't violate this rule, even though it results in a ranged combat attack, but what can we do?
If in the above text the term 'ranged combat action' were replaced with 'ranged combat attack' the loophole would be closed, because it wouldn't matter how the figure got to make a ranged attack, but this hasn't been put in order for a long time already and i don't believe this is actually the intent of the game designers (as was the case with other strange rulings).
Thanks for giving me that...I must of just skipped over it on accident. Darn ADD....Anyways..
I think the way RCE is now is great!! I think it gives more depth to a power that is meant to be 'expertise' at making ranged attack. It'd be like Blob squeezing Cyclops but he is still able to blast Sabertooth back from Jean Grey cause he is so experienced. Just my two cents.
