Originally posted by Deathlok23 A lot of the current JSA series by the fine writers Geoff Johns and David S. Goyer (who made characters like the Hawkman more than "basically the JSA’s version of Aquaman") is available in trade paperback form. As a fan of this fine series, I'm insulted by the lack of knowledge of the person writing this article so far. Since your more familiar with the later issues, I hope Part 2 will be a bit more competent. Better luck with your part 2.
man it's a comic chill, even though i was hoping for bigger paragraphs on black adam and dr.fate o well :P
Actually, I think Jay shoulda had like, 15 speed, 18 def w/willpower, and leadership. Get super senses down the dial.
11 is way too slow. Wally shoulda been faster too.
The JSA is the best comic team ever. I too am disappointed that DarkCrisis was not a little better informed. I will try to help out by writing some histories and basic background at lunch time. (I think my booss would be upset if I did it now.) THe JSA has a VERY long history and background.
Dougmac, The modern JSA is quite different from the JSA you remember from 25 years ago. I few of the old timers are dead and have new people taking thier places, like Star Spangled Kid. I will try to touch on that later. The new JSA comics really play homage to the old timers and the stories.
Now if only Wizkids would make a cool Wildcat figure.
See ya,

JSA Forever
Why is Jay Garrick (unique Flash) not JSA team????
Hey, give him a break...apparently people asked him to do this article...either he does it, and doesn't have the most information, or he doesn't do it and gets hounded to do it.
Good job man, I actually learned something! (Besides, who can figure out Hawkman and Hawkgirl anyway? They change origins like I change underwear)
Contrary to popular belief, I do know what I'm doing
Originally posted by thugit Yeah, I don't want to be a jerk, but if you're going to write a review about whether or not the figures are accurate representations of the characters, you should probably know about them. You almost seem proud to NOT know.
Your explanations of Fate, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and Fury are pretty bad.
Ahem, DarkCrisis has complained about JonL not knowing about characters (Batgirl, Supergirl), so I think he should have followed his own advice concerning "comics research." I must say I agree with thugit.
It would seem to reason that if you are going to do a "relation review" article on the JSA you could take the time to Google up information about all the characters as opposed to saying "Um… he’s like this magic guy… with a magic helmet!"
If your lack of knowledge is genuine it comes off as even more stupid when you feign ignorance.
Originally posted by DarkCrisis Hawkman – Um… is he an alien? Or just use their tech? Does he possess the spirit of some lost god or race of people? Does he just REALLY like birds? Beats me. I’ve never been much of a fan of Hawkman. What does he do? He flies. Well, so what. So does every 3rd hero out there PLUS they have OTHER powers. Eh.
Hawkman is is Prince Khufu of Egypt. Having discovered a Thanagarian spacecraft that crashed in his lands, a prophesy instructed Khufu to fashion a gauntlet from the metal found onboard: The Claw of Horus (capable of tapping into the gravitational field of Earth for added power, it has KOed Superman).
The Thanagarian metal is called "Nth Metal" and bestows flight, enhanced senses, stamina, and strength. Murdered and cursed by Hath-Set, Khufu has been reincarnated throughout the ages. Most recently reincarnated as Carter Hall, Khufu is able to tap into the experiences of his past lives (similar to Highlander) as well as the racial memory of Thanagar, including that of the Thanagarian Police Officer Kotor Hol, through the psychic properties of the Nth metal. Hawkman wears a cuirass and mask of Nth metal.
Prince Khufu was contemporary with the wizard Nabu (now champion of Order and teacher of Dr. Fate), and Teth-Adam, Shazam's original champion.
The only HeroClix version of Hawkman that is close to accurate is his LE Carter Hall version.

Using the In Contact with the Oracle feat and the Oracle character, you can enhance Dr. Fate, Captain Marvel, and Carter Hall to more closely approximate their abilities in the comics.
Here is what I call the feat when used on each of these characters:
Dr. Fate -- In Contact with Nabu
Captain Marvel -- Wisdom of Solomon
Carter Hall -- In Contact with Past Lives and the Racial Memory of Thanagar
I even mentioned I wasn't up to date on the JSA backgrounds and even ASKED for the readers to fill in the gaps and tried to make the review funny despite my lack of knowledge and still I'm hounded.
Atleast unlike JonL I'm not afriad to ask for help.
And as mentioned by aanother poster my reviews aren't about thier histories as much as they are about thier powers. Perhaps, I could have gone into better detail about that. Althgouh, I have to admit I know MORE about the next set of JSAers coming up then I do this set.
Ah well, can't make everyone happy, especially on the net.

I think the Unique is pretty good - Running Shot may be a little bit much, but it's not like he's never swooped out of the sky and tossed a spear at someone. But his stats and (especially damage) represent the character nicely overall.

I think our point is that's not good enough. If you're going to write a regular front page article, particularly one called "relation review" with the goal of rating the accuracy of a characters dial, then you need to do some research and actually be able to quantify your statements. You could spend 5 minutes just reading Whoclix and do a better job than you have been of understanding a character's background. Not taking the time to do even the slightest research makes the entire premise of your column a joke.
I'm not trying to tear you down or discourage you from doing this, and I respect and appreciate your willingness to write a regular article and provide content for the front page. But if you are going to take the time to do it then you should do it right.
Our point is that if you choose to do a featured article on a group of characters, especially when you have been vocally critical of others for not knowing characters, you should do the neccessary research.
