Re: I personally think that it's a CHEESY crutch tactic. . . .
Although, I never used it, I always thought that Pulse Wave + Nova Blast would trump a lot of teams defined as "Cheese." (I hate the term Cheese and believe it's a term used by poor sports). Now it's being defined as cheese.

To each his own . . . . anytime a person uses the same ole' tactic for 80% of their games against opponents . I label it a "Crutch" and a "Cheese" . It's not about being a (so-called) poor sport ; it's about seeing folks have a fun competitive game with eachother.
If he's playing it in 80% of his games, I would think that you would know how to take care of it by now. Nimrod ain't jack if you base him or do one whole click of damage to him.

One in the Poison.

Wait. You want the game to be competitive, but you don't want people using good figures/tactics?
Why not just outwit his PW? Use E Bats (Starter) from Icons and the tactic gets stuffed by a leap climbing, willpowered, outwitting, perma-stealth batman for only 47 points.
And in my opinion, PW-Nova Blast is a legit tactic and ultimately there is no "cheese." But it can be a "crutch" if the same person always uses that tactic. I can relate b/c there was a guy at my venue who ALWAYS used at least three hypersonic figs. It wasn't cheese, but it got old. So I can understand the frustration by always seeing the same thing.
Still, the combo is not that hard to nix, particularly on the new AW Map. So if he's not being creative, you should be and therefore be quite capable of stomping him every time.
If you play at the same venue, and the same players bring the same tyoe of teams and figures to play EVERY time, it does get old. but at the same time, you can build to take him down. And players can evey work together. I have seen this before. I have had the same thing at my venue. One guy would alwasy play the same HSS figs. So every player brought BFC's to use against him. Cross winds, Poor Team work, and IFF. He didnt win a game that day. Since then he has changed his teams up.
We have a player that constantly uses Nova Blast with either Nimrod or Cyborg. I got him one time though when I neutralized his Nimrod by basing him with a bunch of lowly Hand Ninjas. Yeah, Nimrod would KO each Ninja in one strike, but since I kept basing him, Nimrod couldn't Pulse Wave, he used up actions KOing the Ninjas, and I picked off the rest of his team. Sadly, he's now learned not to get based by another grounded figure... that, and he always uses Ordinary Day against me.
I need a new technique.
In my day, we didn't have Heroclix. If you were being attacked by Superman with a 3d dumpster, you just had to hope you could outrun him.
Nimrod + Pulsewave is tough, but it's not vet supes... I got in a hit with a APed HSSer (Kurt), and that crippled his mobility some. But outwit or a lockjaw/sidewinder/vanisher to base him also sounds like smart and easy sullutions, and I think that splitting your team up some is a pretty constructive sullution (unless you have too much Enchantment/SHILED)... and btw (and I mighthave missed this), how many points are we talking?
