Go back and reread all the books in a short sitting. All the clues are there that Xorn really was Magneto.
Morrison weaved a tale for the ages. He stunned more folks than Mark Millar has done on The Ultimates.
I agree that the 'clues' are there...but as I recall, there were plenty of red herrings/mis-steps (I mentioned above the 'head in the warp drive', the 'back history' of Xorn's pre-rescue, etc.)
that just do not jive with Xorn == Magneto. Morrison is talented enough that he could convince me this was the case all along...but he didn't. ...I'm even totally cool with odd-continuity, alternate takes on characters...but for me personally, the Xorn as Magneto just did not hold together...it requires just a little too much work on my part to accept it.
No... That was the back of Galactus' uniform being blown out after he devoured a world made entirely out of hot and spicy beef and bean burritos, with oceans of chile sauce.
And no, you dont' wanna light a match by the bugger. He'd becoem a new sun.

There used to be a Thread about Morrison's run on NXM. It's about 3-4 years old now and one guy posted a great hypothesis of all the clues and Magneto's past associations and how even the fake Chinese prison was a set-up.
I wish I had the time to find it now, but I don't.
The jist of it was that past comics have shown Mags having Chinese/Korean associates and this was who he used to build/take over the prison that "Xorn" was being held captive in.
And, if you re-read the books you can even see that the very rare thought balloons/internal monologues given to Xorn were definitely something Magneto would have said in the past when he was "grey."
Why o' why is there always so much hype about Morrison's run.
I've collected X-men since Giant Sized and most of his run was a
bunch of junk, different, but junk. Now I'm not saying his is the only
only run of junk in X-books (cause there is a bunch!) but I hear a
number of people jump for joy with his run, read it twice, still don't
see it! Joss' run is kicking the stuff out of Morrison's run ten times over!
Just my two cents!!
never said GM was better then Joss. Thing is how Joey Q has mucked up things that had been written by GM. It's all politics, as GM left Marvel when he did and Joey Q needed an outlet of revenge (of sorts) so he did away/retconned away all the work GM had put into the run of X-Men he had done. Not saying GM did a great job, but his work was better then Joe's cruddy retconning job.

What about the Weapon Plus program (the only thing I really enjoyed in GM's run. Someone chage Beast back!!) thats been turning up in Wolierine Origins? They still seem to be recognizing that portion of his story.
Fixed it . Some of Morrison's stuff was ok, but overall I didn't enjoy it. Claremonts last good Xmen story was in 1991
Trust me, I'm not talking about anything Claremont did too much past Inferno.
Lobdell did something, that I wasn't all that impressed with. I can't remember if it was X-related or not. Will have to go look.
And I'm a big Morrison fan. His X-Men got me back into collecting X-Men. till then, I was pretty content preserving and living in the memory of CC's early run.
Oh well, at least we agree on Whedon!

YOu musst be an old school fan like me then. I like my super heroe sin spandex and doing good. Morrisons run was just out of character. Alot of his stuff was a radical departure and it all happened to quickly. Alot of the young mutants that started the school whne he took over the book should be in thier mid 20s almost. That ignores wha thas been established before. Andthey are tryingto recon and even dismiss what he did. Good or bad it was done. They must have known that it was going to change the entire mutant world and not let it have happened or let it be one of those what if type stories. I could totally see what all he did being its own universe where anything goes and the regualr mutant universe stayingthe same. Like his stories just happend on a divergent world. I think his stuff was good and a nice play on the character, but it just wasnt something that could last. It was too different.
The selfish infect us all with sad, vulgar, sexual references and a constant barage of innapropriate innuendo. A pity to be subjected to this against our wills, but to allow it into our lives with open arms shames us all

Yeah, these are littered all over the place.
Maybe Jeph Lobe can bless us with "Magneto: Magenta" as soon as he and Joe Manga-du-rhea finish ruining Ultimates.
I disagree. Cyclops was the waffling insecure psuedo-leader. Wolverine was the animalistic underbelly of the team who wanted what he could never have, and when it was finally taken away for good (well as good as a Jean death can be) ... he crossed the line the other wouldn't. Who was out of character during the run ? The only one was drugged up Magneto -- which is explained as a side effect of the drug. Would Claremont's Magneto have taken drugs ... ? I doubt it. CC Magneto always had supreme confidence in his power, he just occasionally waffled on what was right for mutant kind. As for Emma ? Well nobody had done much with her as a character so she was Morrison's to mold. And Whedon has done a nice job of riding GM's coat tails in this regard (as GM rode CC coat tails on other characters). How about Charles Xavier ? Completely in character. Guilt ridden as always, conflicted, the most powerful mutant on Earth still emotionally weak. Magneto commits the ultimate betrayal of Charles, taking away the one thing secred to Chuck -- his students and his school. The whole thing was awesome and ranks up there with the awesome arcs of the past. Mutant Massacre, DPS, DoFP etc.

Couldn't agree more.
Aside from the balck outfits and the cowardly lion looking beast, I felt that Morrison took the X-Men back to their roots, when CC was putting out quality X-Men stories. Being a BIG fan of that era, I saw a lot similarites in the characterizations. Morrison's run was almost flawless and serves as the bridge between CC, and Whedon uniting the best eras in X history.

Then again, I was never that big a fan of the X-Men at all, no matter who wrote them. Occassionally, I'd pick up a book, if it had a guest star I liked. Last time I actually bought an issue, instead of just reading at teh store, was in the eaarly 90's, it was a 2 issue crossover with (Dan Ketch's) Ghost Rider, and had the Brood in it.
So, for me, eh. I did like Morrison's tale, with Xorn being Mags and such, just not enough to buy the TPB.
I liked Claremont's run on FF a few years ago... which, most people I know disliked, because he introduced the FF to various X-Men foes (like the Brood).
