No kidding, between Silver Surfer and Super Skrull, I would have expected something..........
I'd be all over reviewing it but my new shop ran out of them so I haven't read either of them. It's truely sad, as they were what I was looking forward to the most this week. Annihilation has been the best crossover in recent Marvel history!!
"Come on Hulk! Where's the old boasting? The battle cries? Why aren't you bellowing about how you're 'the strongest one there is'? Could it be because... you know it's not true?"
"No. Because it's just too obvious."
-Juggernaut to Hulk
This issue is everything a good comic should be. SS is hosed after being betrayed by his little turd bag partner in crime. They hose his FF powers and are about to dissect him. At this point the Skrull world has been eaten by the Harvester of Sorrow and Turd Boy (tm) is talking smack about how SS's son is now shredded wheat. They forgot that SS has more powers then just the FF's, he can mind control people. So he mind controls Turd Boy (tm) and forces him to free him and his Bulleteer looking girlfriend and the cool rock dude who can clone himself. After this they basically go Aliens (tm 20th century Fox) making their way through the Harvester (rock dude sacrifices himself to hold off the bug armada). Along the way Turd Boy (tm) gets his limbs chopped off and he gets nailed to the Harvester. In the end SS dies and he absorbs enough of the blast to save his GF, who then returns to the Skrull throne to tell the tale of SS heroic act. They sculpt up a sweet statue of him.
Silver Surfer #4 - Rated 9
Bear with me. I thought the story and plot got a little wacky and weak here. It alluded to some deals that Thanos is having with some Celestial look alikes and what not, and drifts a little bit. But I have never read a book with such a tail kicking Silver Surfer. He is all amped up on the power cosmic, and decides he's had enough of Ravenous and his herald killing ways -- he absolutely lays a beating on him. He leaves him alive but in awe of the Surfers power. Looks like ole' Chrome Dome is back full time as an employee of Galactus Inc. also
Wolverine Origin #4 - Rated 6
An entire issue devoted to a fight scene between Captain America and Wolverine. Seriously. The whole issue. In the end they talk for a few panels and Logan tries to convince Cap that he has been tricked into tracking him down. Um. Isn't Cap running from SHIELD, not working for the president ? WTF ? When the F does this take place ? The issues where the rocket landed on the lawn are in continuity ? Joe Q ... you seriously suck ... I mean at least pretend to keep a universe in order. After all your "house cleaning" in Di$$a$$embled and Hou$e of Turd you still have no continuity.

Couldn't have said it better myself. This title(s) has been the gem of Marvel hidden by all the Civil War stuff. Really too bad.

Super Skrull died...
Carp In A Hat! Maybe I won't get the TPB now...
But, in the SS's defense, I don't know how many times he has died and come back.
On an Annihilation note, I was thrilled to pick up one of the last two copies of Silver Surfer on new comic day. Not just because I got to read the finale that day, but also because it looks like an increased number of people (based on how the other issues all had loads left over) are picking up the mini series and the main one will get the wider audience it deserves.
As far as Doom's legs, geek-explano-text: I'd bet that he has just modded his boots to hide his hooves. Truth: that body 'feature' has probably been forgotten.
Maybe Millar was listening to everyone complain about them back when they first appeared, and hence decided "well, screw that!"
I thought they looked pretty cool, but its nice to know some people listen.
Cap goes after Logan in an effort to bring him and Nuke back to the US. During their match, both fighters use awesome strikes to incapacittate each other. During the respite of the fight, Logan realizes that Cap and Logan are being set up, as he feels that Nuke was supposed to be an improvement on him, not on Cap. Just as both recuperate and start going after each other, Cyclops, Emma and Hellion show up to stop them. The story is good in this book, but the pencils are HORRBILE and are degrading with each passing issue. Rated an 8

I agree it was alot better than the previous issue. I didn't think it was a great start but I really do feel like its going to go somewhere. I'm interested to see how they plan on working Cable onto the team. In Cable / Deadpool right now he's in control of two countries, kinda seems odd for him to get up and leave them to help out Rogue's 'strike squad'.
Still its looking good (I thought Uncanny looks promising too). I just hope one of the two titles decides to bring back Gambit and retcon him into being normal again.
I actually hope that Gambit remains a Horseman for awhile. The all-star cast of Horsemen could've made the group a real threat to the X-Men. Too bad, they didn't even last one arc.
As for Cable, his inclusion on the team doesn't have to affect his control of his countries, after all look at Emma, Scott and Logan. All are currently doing things in Astonishing X-men and in Wolverine: Origins. Plus Wolverine is involved in hunting Nitro down in his own title and involved in Civil War.
Anyway, I thought this was a great start, on a played out theme. Apparently, someone is using mutants to experiment on. They are trying to see if baseline humans can catch the mutant gene in the form of a disease. The Omega Sentinel, Karima Shapandar is rescued from a hospital, while a now healing factorless Sabretooth is running for for his life. He heads for the school and asks for sanctuary. Rogue ssembles her own team, which so far has Cannonball, Iceman, and Mystique. Meanwhile, the people who are chasing down Sabretooth, blow up a bar that he had just visited, and use some mind tricks on a girl, to make her claim on TV, that the X-Men commited a terrorist act. AWESOME! Rated a 9

Man, I'm suprised. Tbolts 104 was a great issue. Anyhoo, here a recap.
New Thunderbolt 104-Zemo continues to allie himself with the pro-regestration side, hunting down super-villians and giving them the choice of join the Tbols or be put in stasis. Many villians have accepted and joined including Doctor Octopus, Quicksand, Boomerang, and the U-Foes. Many in the government are still wary of Zemo's motives, but realize that with the anti-registrations side on the loose, thay need the help the Tbots can provide. Unknown to them, Zemo's real motivation is to build a army to take on the Grandmaster and his new Squadron Sinister. In addition Zemo seems to playing both sides, as he visits the anti-registration camp and offers them freedom and redemption.
Squadron Supreme #5: So the team is stroming across the Middle East, taking out terroists and insurgents. They come across this town where the bad guys have wiped out the townfolk, and buried them in a mass grave. As they are checking things out, Inertia find a little girl whose mother and sister were assaulted by soldiers. This of course, brings up her memories and she uses her anger to find the offenders. Meanwhile China decides that the group is a major threat to everyone's national security, so they decide to creat their own team, starting with Hyperion's old buddy from Supreme Power- Mr. Redtank. This now makes the thrid national Superteam of this Earth. Awesome! Rated an 8

Victor Creed isn't afraid of anything. And, he sure as hell wouldn't run to the X-Men for help.
It just seems that everything that Claremont and Larry Hama and Frank Tieri did to develop Sabretooth is being thrown right out the window. Just like Joey Q has done with Magneto.
This is why I don't buy single issues anymore. I wait for the TPBs and if they were a good story arc then I'll buy the TPBs.
I talked with Mr. Claremont at last year's WWE and he told me that every appearance of Sabretooth since the Marauder/Morlock Massacre that he didn't have a hand in writing was a posseur. He related his plans for Sabretooth were going to show just how ferocious he really is.
CC related that Sabe's isn't afraid of anything and slaughtering women and children and men as he has done over the recent years is nothing compared to what he is truly capable of. It's just a shame we'll never get to see that.
Instead, we have to endure Victor running to the X-Men for help against the 'big, bad mutants.'
I'd agree with this, except for the fact that the experiments they ran on him have cancelled out his healing factor. If you had a healing factor, it might make you a little more reckless/fearless. Without it, especially when you relied on it to pull you through, you might have a different view/approach on things. So it is believable.
