Hey, except for Jason Todd turning into whatever that thing was because he ingested a little too much 'bug juice', I sorta liked the rest of the story. I really dig Cheyenne.

I havent' followed Nightwing (the comic book series) since the "Year One" tale. I have no idea what goes on there except what I read here in the threads. I have no idea what happened to Jason Todd, but I dont' like the char, so if something bad happened, I'm ok with it.

I'd like it too except for a few things...like Mr. Grayson being a man##### (c'mon, he doesn't have to live up to this first name) and jumping into bed with women he doesn't even get the name of on his first night in town...or the fact that while I think I too "dig" Cheyenne, I've a bit of a problem with the way she murdered a guy so casually. Maybe I'm just a big romantic softy at heart too but, darn it, I want to know what happened to NW's engagement to Oracle - talk about glazed over and forgotten. It also took me bit at first to figure out if this really was the "real" Nightwing - as until the latest issue of "Outsiders" I refused to admit that was the same guy as, frankly, he was so un-Grayson'ish in both titles it was scary - especially since in "Outsiders" they said all of them were thought dead by the world (later revealed that NW got to be the exception to that). Quibbles aside I'm not minding it too much and will stick with the title.
Ever notice though that pretty much all of Bruce Jones' work deals with the duality of identity? You have "blatant" ones like "Hulk" and "Vigilante" to more subtle ones like the double-Nightwings or the "Who is Travis Morgan for real?" over in the pages of "Warlord". It's starting to feel a bit like a one-trick pony here.

Batman #655 - Rated 8 - Batman throws a shot in the face Joker into a dumpster? Er... okay. And Alfred has to teach him to be Bruce Wayne. And Ninja Man-Bats created by.. some woman he apparently knocked up.
Action #841 - Rated 7 - Why are the aliens stealing churches? To sell? Anyways Superman tries to stop them but thier giant-sized leader hops down to see whats up. A start of an arc... with a silly premise.
I think that the aliens stealing monumnets, and other architecual structures is just a background to the story. I think the real story is the fact that the world outside of Metropolis doesn't believe that this is Superman. None the less, a less than stellar start by Buisek. But I like his writing, so I'm not worried about future issues.
As for Batman, I gues I'll have to read Son of the Demon next week, when it comes out. But Grant just kind threw me for a loop. Batman shoots Joker in the face, while telling him to "Die?" Is Morrison taking Batman's character back to the Golden Age? As for Bruce at the party, I thought of Christain Bale, in Batman Begins. A WTF start to Morrison's run.

You've hit on several of my problems here. Richard being like Roy - I can see the whole man##### being a logical evolution of Roy's character, as he's been a skirt-chaser since the Teen Titans back in the '60s. Richard, however, is far more of the loyal romantic. The complete ignoring of Richard & Barbara's relationship bugs me too. And as for Mr. Grayson acting unlike himself over in Outsiders - up until Bruce Jones run on Nightwing Judd Winnick was one of my most hated writers for the way that he couldn't write Nightwing as Nightwing. However, Mr. Jones is so far afield that I can actually see some resemblance to Richard in Winnick's portrayal (which scares me).
But one of my biggest problems is how inept Bruce Jones portrays Nightwing as. He's had the "One Year Later" time off, and according to Mr. Jones this means Nightwing has forgotten everything that he knew about fighting, detecting, acrobatics and dealing with meta-humans. Which in and of itself is ludicrous, but is even more ridiculous when you realize that over in Outsiders he's running the team and has been for some time. Which means he isn't out of practice or out of shape or has forgotten how to deal with meta-humans.
Any wonder I hate what he's doing with my favorite character in all comicdom?
Kudos for Mr. Busiek for giving us a nice jump on point for Action. I tried jumping on when Jim Lee was doing the art chores and the people were vanishing, but just couldn't enjoy it.
Here's hoping for a good run. It will be nice to read stuff from a guy that cares about his characters as much as Busiek does. Depending on how the run pans out, my reading list may drop down to;
Captain America, Thunderbolts, Conan, All-Star Superman, and Action.
Having just finished all six mp3 cds (with basically all the surviving episodes) of the Superman radio program makes me want to find a mag that captures that (All-Star does, and I'm hoping Action will as well).

I think the good thing is, that this issue has that 50's feel. Big science fiction story, type of deal. So given what you've said, I could see how this might appeal to you. I have high hopes.
I loved the Lee/Azzarello run. It was a story that really took an introspective look at Superman, and what it's like to have all that power and the need to be responsible with it. Plus, it had General Zod...the real one, which is a bonus.
The Spectre #3 So before Crispus Allen can merge with the Spectre, he has to experience what it's like and set aside his personal feelings and convictions. The Spectre tells him he was chosen because of his previous job as a cop. So as a test, he has to take care of the serial killer Weiss, and then has to take care of his own son-who kills Jim Corrigan. Really good look at what the Spectre's purpose in the DCU is, and helps define it for those that don't know. Not a great series, but far from bad!

It's even more inept when you remember that unlike, say, Superman, Nightwing (and Bruce and Tim) took a year off to train and hone their abilities. They enhanced their skill as a "Three Muskateers"-team but also upped their own abilities, including how they interact in a world where the metahumans have spread briskly since Bruce and #### first donned their masks. In other words, Nightwing should be even better than he was One Year Earlier.

Batman didn't shoot the Joker, some nut in a Batman suit did. Re-read the section with Gordon in the hospital.
I really disliked his work on the Hulk, but that's ok.

It's been a while since I read all of that but I think Talia had the coffin reassembled and the grave filled back in to cover up that Jason was with her (if you recall Batman commented that noone had been in the coffin when he took it apart).

As rouge2 stated, the "Batman" that shot Joker was an ex-cop who had gone nutso. It was a little confusing in the beginning, but if you reread the scene with Bats and Jim in the hospital it is spelled out there.
I, for one, am looking forward to Morrison's run on the book. I think this is an interesting set-up for the character. Granted, I haven't been reading the Man-Bat mini, so the continuity thing isn't causing an issue with me there. As far as Talia being around a lot and not seeing her son during these times, I think she probably could find someone to watch her child while she was "working". She's probably had the League of Assassins training him all this time.
Plus, I think it will just be cool to see a bunch of Man-Bats attacking
Batman.

It was explained that, after Ra's and Talia found him, they had another coffin made and replaced the original ... and then, I think, killed the coffin maker to keep him from telling Bats.
