Dutchess let loose with a flurry of whip cracks, catching Batman in the chest, and barely missing Jean-Paul.

Menwhile, Batgirl, occupied with the Palace Guard never saw the second one race from the shadows, planing his blade deep in her ribs. She felt the air rush oiut of her as everything faded to black.

Geo-Force loosened a Marble column, preparing to fire it down at Azrael. Instead a large section of roofing crahed down on him.

"You'll pay for that," he sneered.

Meanwhile, the guards converged on Batman, swinging their blades ferociously, but the Dark Knight whirled and danced around each of them, darting in and out of Catwoman's smoke.

The Markovian Guard seemed to be crumbling like the palace. From the shadows, the captain took carful aim at a distracted Batman, but fate intervened as a piece of the roof Geo-Force had broken free crashed into his arm as he pulled the trigger.

The Captain swore in a language that definitely wasn't Markovian.
