Just a notch below OK. As someone noted, if someone were to kill superman it should be Luthor. Although Alan Moore's "whatever happened to the man of tomorrow" will always be the true Superman Epilogue for me. There's a fit ending for a hero if i ever saw one.
On a side-note, i've always imagined superman killing Luthor when "it came down to it" and then retiring from the remorse of such an action.
Keep in mind it's been awhile since I read this (and the only part of it I still own to look at for reference is the comic where Superman and Johnathen Kent are on their way to the afterlife), but personally it wasn't as bad as it's been made out to be.
Yeah, it was a semi-pointless marketing ploy. But at the same time, it explored something no one would've ever expected. And it was decently well-done, especially for material obviously designed only to ride on shock value to major sales. It had action, drama, character-building, and impact. It just wasn't what it pretended to be, and felt like a convoluted copout.
5/10
(And personally, I think it SHOULD take a new, out of nowhere threat to kill Superman. If Luthor could kill Supes, he likely would've done it by now. It's the same with all of the rest of his typical enemies. If they wanted to/could kill him, he'd be gone, no questions asked.)

It's those zero's that are bringing it down so far. To be fair, you really should only be able to give it a 1 at it's lowest (assuming we're only using whole numbers). Otherwise you have eleven options (0-10) instead of ten options (1-10).
As for my rating, I'll give it a 6/10. There's always something fun about fighting the newest "biggest most powerful opponent" (Doomsday in this case). Just look at the popularity of shows like DBZ.
But I have the sense to recognize that I don't know how to let you go...
