I see you're from Indy - check for other gamers in your area, there should be a bunch. Ask about friendly games, even offer to host if you can. When I was first learning the judge at my venue had me over to his house and I had him over to mine and we played a few times to really get me grounded in the rules.
There's lots of generous people in this "community", so just check it out. My guess is someone will be more than glad to help.
If you lived in Maryland I could set you up, but I'm sure some folks here from Indy will help.
You can also try on the WK site.
Good luck!

I wish I had a mentor to help me with this game. I work weekends, and miss alot of my comic shop games. Thank you all for takin' time to help out the new guy. It is special, and grows the game to be kind.

It's alright, dude, even experienced players come on here to ask questions -- this is a difficult game with a lot of nuance, and as new rules and figures come out, the combinations of rules and powers can be daunting.
Here's some advice from someone who was a newbie not all that long ago...
1. Don't hesitate to come here to the Rules Forum to ask questions. No matter what anyone else posts, there are AWESOME people here who will help set you straight.
2. Come read the Rules Forum, even when you don't have a specific question. There is great discussion on WHY things work, not just HOW, and it will help with your game understanding.
3. Try combinations out at home, by yourself, before you try them in tournament play. If you are trying a power you haven't used before, try it out. If you have questions about how it works, ask it here before you get to the tournament.
4. I don't know if you are a comic-booky kind of guy, but it always helps me to try to figure out the "comic flavor" of why things are the way they are in the rules. For example, to me, the "comic flavor" of why the JLA team ability is the way it is: The game is designed to operate on just a few actions per turn, and it can be difficult for teams to be able to maintain combat formations with only those few actions. The JLA team ability (and the Avengers) represents the experience this team brings to the battlefield on maintaining combat formations... these are experienced heroes, used to working together, and each figure doesn't need directions on how to maintain their formations, they just do it on their own.
