Now that MoE TA got a revamp and IL got an ATA card, the TA most in need up a facelift has got to be Shield. Ever since NAAT came about, Shield TA has been next to useless.
Let's just make Shield into Enhancement and call it a day. Sure, it only works for ranged attacks, but SHIELD isn't known for their martial artists!

alright, when Sinister was previewed i talked about this figure. rather than repeat it now, i'll just say, i really like the direction Seth has taken the game in, but i really think that Ultimate Nick Fury was one of the only characters he dropped the ball on.
in response to what someone asked:
i personally don't like that 'armor-piercing rounds' get psychic blast, but i'm a big Seth Proponent 95% of the time. he just needs to stop handing out Psychic Blast to anyone who has a powerful range attack, IE Danger Room Cyclops. Cyclops' blasts are pure power, there's nothing 'penetrating' about them, they're just huge concussive blasts, that's a damage value of like, 4, NOT Psychic Blast.
rant for another location. a better explanation is, in Ultimates Annual #1 (Aug. 2005), he used a rifle that had bullets that would like, phase through walls to hit their targets and stuff. Now, though this is a good reason why he should have the Ultimates TA, its not a stretch to imagine such a weapon making armor irrelevant.

Call me old-school. Call me just plain old.
Heck, erroneously call me racist.
But that ain't Nick Fury.
Anyway, good review, as usual, AZS.
I think this figure's a little bit overrated by many people.
All my friends think he's great, and I just don't see it– especially after I kill him with characters like Marrina.
Wait. I forgot. Marrina is awesome.
*scratching head*
Have you ever read a Marvel Comic with the word "Ultimate" in it? He's shown up in almost all of them....
Granted, he SHOULD have the Ultimates TA, strictly speaking about the sculpt. I guess a Stealthed Outwitter/Leadership/Willpower/Psy Blaster would make an Ultimates team TOO powerful
*casting nervous glances over at Ult. Thor*
As it is - I love the character, and passed up a Scarlet Spider for him. I stand by that decision!
"The man who insists on seeing with perfect clearness before he decides, never decides."
Henri-Frédéric Amiel - Heroclix prophet about slow players?
he might be good with darkness within, and stand him next to some thugs and S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, so he can use it again and again. From the ultimate spider-man and ultimate x-men so far, this new Nick Fury is a very evil individual a good deal of the time "I want that Oz code cracked by my birthday, and then it's time to have Peter Parker say goodbye to his spider powers" will Fury goblin himself up, outwit spideys powers, and then murder him when he can no longer defend himself?
or that time he sent Wolverine to do the wet work for him on that poor poison kid. I mean, the least you could do is kill him yourself, evil Fury. "From now on we're enemies." what a jerk.

Krypto shouldn't have Psychic Blast. Cyclops on the other hand has alot of control over his blasts and could direct alot of force into a small area effectively making them penetrate armor. He's done it before.
What I meant to say was I hated the 'Affirmative Fury' at first, too. The thing that changed my mind was the Samuel L. quality of him meshing very well with the core character of Fury. Fury is an old warhorse, who doesn't give a rat's arse about Beurocratic b.s., sanctions, and commies. I don't think the way I've seen him in Ultimates strays from that. Also, according to Mark Millar, the reason 616 Fury is the way he is, falls back to him being realesed when Bond and other spy vs. spy movies where very popular. Think about it, would you rather have David Hasselhoff or Samuel L. Jackson as your live-action, big budget, blockbuster, Nick Fury? 'Nuff Said.
Heh. Hasselhoff should play that old Cowboy superhero in white on the horse. What was he called? The Night Rider?
I'd take Steve McQueen or --even better--James Coburn to play (original) Nick Fury.
But, yeah-- I imagine him like sort of a tougher James Bond.
There's nobody really 'man' enough to play Nick Fury in today's Holywood, as far as I'm concerned.
As for the 'Ultimate' universe, well-- I was excited about it years ago-- I thought they were going to tell all new stories that weren't mired down in years of continuity. I thought that was the point. "From the beginning', so to speak. Cool.
Instead, I found that they just made the old characters from my childhood...well.... less likeable. Hateable, in some cases. IMHO.
Spidey is the exception. That book really seemed aimed at new readers who've never read Spidey stories, and is really true to the intentions of the character's creators.
I just don't dig on the Ultimates.
Granted, I haven't read a lot of comics with him, but it seems I just don't dig on Ultimate Nick Fury, either.
That's alls I'm sayin', gang!
Gotta disagree with ya, Azs. I've been digging on Fury ever since I saw his dial preview, and in my (admittedly limited) experience playing him, he's lived up to the hype.
Is he fragile? Yeah. But so are 90% of the Stealth pieces out there. If the Stealth gives him some protection, though, Nick can be a major pain. The key, for me, is to pair him up with a Stealth taxi. It gives him the mobility he lacks and a helping hand if he's based. My personal preference is to pair him up with V. HIVE Trooper -- it's a nasty combo.
As far as his dial-- I LIKE it. I don't think it's a top-heavy as most people think. I don't deny that he loses a lot after he loses Stealth, but for a fig halfway down his dial, he still spots a respectable AV and Dam, and a dash of EE to give him a few more options.
As far as the first click: Again, I think it's a pretty decent. I like the one click of Leadership -- it's both thematic and useful, helping deploy your team in the early going. The Toughness might seem like a waste, but it isn't - It'll protect him from the threat of standard EE and Poison, two traditional ways to attack Stealth characters (though it won't protect him if those powers are augmented by Armor Piercing). It also gives him something useful on his defense slot -- Willpower would be a waste, since you'll want to push him to get to his Outwit and higher AV.
As you pointed out, that second click is ridiculously sweet. If you can keep Nick from getting swarmed (by giving him teammates that will tie up opponents in close combat) he will rip people apart at range. If he gets based by just one person, he's perfectly capable of handling himself -- his Outwit will allow him to counter any damage reducers or pesky CR the attacker might have.
I think where a lot of people get disappointed with Fury is in the application of Feats. Put simply, he's better off without them. He'll be able to make only limited use of them, and they won't be worth the points. He can use Inspiring Command -- for one click, which you'll want to push off of anyway. He can use Protected -- except that front half of his dial is designed for pushing, and the back half isn't worth Protecting. He's a good buy at 63 points; save the Feat cards for his teammates.
As far as team builds, he can work well in 300 points and under. He also worked EXTREMELYwell for me in a 500 point build (detailed over at http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showth...9#post2212399). Haven't tried him yet in a 400-point build, and I think it might cause him problems -- too much muscle at that total for him to be the primary attacker, and using him as a secondary attacker might not give him enough teammates to keep from being swarmed.
Admittedly, Fury's got his flaws, but played right he can be a beast. And I definitely think he's a tournament-viable piece.

Nick (SamJ) Fury is one of the few pieces that I make sure to try beat to KO ASAP when I face it...it's an incredibly dangerous piece on all clicks, especially if he's got Line-Of-Sight to various opponents. My opponents may think that he dropped too fast, but I don't think they realized that I made him my number-1 target
I suspect some people are put off by his 6-range (preferring something closer to his 10-range for Outwit), or would like to have an easy way for him to bust Stealth. I happen to think this is a very well-designed piece, and well-worth the point investment.
(edit: Azs points out Fury has range 8..so I guess the gripes lie elsewhere?)
There may be some bias since we comic readers may subconsciously think of Nick Fury as the tentpole for a SHIELD team...but his cost and his dial put him solidly in the ranks of a classic "secondary attacker" and/or "team player".
