So, I hear that aside from the Wii's system code, individual Wii games will have Friend Codes, just like the DS (DS has a system code too, but you never/rarely use it).
No, this isn't rumor: The first Wii online game has been released in Japanland, and it's got Friend Codes. And it's a Poke-man game, so it's not some 8th-party title.
I really, really hoped that Nintendo would learn their lesson from the fail that is the DS Friend Code system, work something nice out for the Wii, and then somehow patch the DS so that the online functions are more friendly.
Is a universal online dashboard such a difficult concept to grasp?
Hmmm...that's odd. I know that the Elebits has an online option to send levels you create to people on your list. All you need is to have them in your address book and you in theirs.

Well...that's basically a Friend Code, isn't it? That's how FCs work: You have to be on their list and you have to have them on yours.

Well..there is an overall Wii system code that you have to share. Maybe I'm confused. I thought you were saying something in addition to that is required. What I'm saying is that once you have each other's system code, that's all you need. There wasn't anything specific with the particular game that you also needed to swap.

This Pokemon game definitely has seperate, DS-style Friend Codes. It's got a lot of folks annoyed, since the DS online system is pretty much considered to be a cumbersome as can be.
The DS has a system code and then individual Friend Codes for each game you register. The only game to offer a truly offer a real online mode (that I've played) is Metroid Prime: Hunters, and that's mainly due to the Rival system.
EDIT: Oh, and Emmit Otter? Greatest anything, ever. Riverbottom Nightmare Band was the peak of rad.
In this case, I gotta agree with Fox. That's the one black eye Nintendo has on this, in my case. I don't play online games with my DS at all, because of what a complete and utter failure it is. It undermines the entire point of online play. And for that matter, you usually can't connect worth a damn, either, because they decided that putting up game servers like Microsoft does would be a bad idea. Had they done their research, they'd know that some of the biggest ISP's in the US don't allow you to do massive uploads for more than 20 minutes. Thus, no game serving, no hosting, no online play for more than 20 minutes.
I mean, it's great if you only want to play online games with the 6 people you know that have a Wii/DS, but otherwise it's horsepuckey. And considering I know a grand total of 1 person outside of HCR that owns a Wii and has it online, I'm not looking forward to online gaming.
That all being said, I doubt I'll play anything online-worthy anyways.

I totally agree as well. I actually hate the base codes that you have to have with the Wii, and all the friend codes for the other stuff is what has kept me away from really worrying about the online stuff for the DS. I think the only thing I've ever done online with that was Mario Kart or Tetris, cause you didn't have to worry about anything with those.

Well, the couple DS Games I played on WiFi have the friend code thingy, but then also have a random matchup... (Which works fine for me. )
