He's dead. It would blow up in marvel's face to get all that press they did on wednesday to only bring him back so quickly. I wouldn't expect him back till well after world war hulk.
I can honestly say that the death of Captain America has broken my heart and helped to further my distrust of Marvel comics. I got completely out of comics with one such incident back a couple of years ago (anyone remember a little thing called the Spider-man clone saga?) Oh, I've cooled down since it happened and thought about it and read numerous things about it, and I believe that Steve Rogers will be brought back. As was noted before they've put others in the mask for a while, only to bring back the one true Cap in the end.
Plus with Batman's broken back and Superman's death, that was all part of greater story lines within the books that ran for over a year. Marvel has killed off Thor as well only to be bringing back him this spring (I say yay, but you have to wonder how you're gonna bring him back from Ragnarok)
So I agree with the person who said this is gonna last at least a year, precedent has been set.
All that said, it still doesn't make it right. Captain America does belong to us all, as someone stated earlier. My earliest memory of reading a comic book, involves a Captain America comic. He has always been my favorite character. And I hope to goodness Marvel does the right thing with this and restores my faith in this. Because if they keep going the way they're going, fans may begin to show they're beliefs in another way and putting their hard earned dough elsewhere.
"He belongs to us all" junk is silly. You still have those stories, those memories. The death doesn't do anything to discredit the enjoyment you had of the character.
It means a lot when the comics that one has read since a child kills one of the true icons of the genre. It's all an attempt to drive up sales. Like after the sales figures for each and every issue of Civil War wasn't enough for Marvel. Or it's not enough that Captain America was one of many titles in top 25 bestselling comics consistently. So where's the need to drive up sells? Oh, why am I even typing this? No one really cares. In this day and age where dark and gritty sells, where killers such as the Punisher are heroes, why would anyone expect that a hero such as Captain America would remain untouched, and that's what truly saddens me is that no one cares.
My going theory is that Captain America is dead, however Steve Rogers lives...meaning that Joey Q can still say he isn't lying its just that Steve is giving up the mantle. Maybe he'll become Nomad or The Captain again, but for him he can never go back. Not after everything that has happened.
See, I am not sure I even believe that. The panel before Caps gut-shots seemed to show someone wearing a jacket and tie drawing a gun. Plus the panel of dead Cap on gurney did not look like his face.
My personal theory is that Carol was brainwashed to think she killed Cap, and that Cap is still alive. I know Marvel has confirmed Cap to be dead, but honestly I don't trust what they say anyhow.
Oh my theory is that Red Skull just wants a Cap body back and that Cap isn't dead either.
*cue someone screaming that "ZOMG MARVEL SAID HE'S DEAD"*
Cause they'd never mislead anyone to play up a storyline.

THe following is a piece of an interview CBR did with Joey Q. in the wake of Cap's death.

Joey Q. - I have not read the actual panels that were published, but the truth of the matter is it's a discussion between Ms. Marvel and Spider-Woman or something like that - and I'm about to SPOIL "THE INITIATIVE" STORY for everybody right here, right now, so stop reading if you don't want to know - but what Ms. Marvel is trying to do is she's trying to trap Spider-Woman. She's actually giving her mis-information, none of that is true, but it is an element of the story that eventually gets revealed later on in the story. SPOILER OVER
When I saw the CBS story on TV I couldn't help but Laugh. And then all the people scrambling to get their hands on copies (YES,Copiies) of Captain America #25 was even Funnier. People that have never picked up a comic were in the store Saturday or calling trying to get a copy.
Captain America Is not dead for a lot of reasons but more Important is the Character "Steve Rogers" is Alive too. It is safe to say that The Punisher is going to be taking over the Name for a bit. I'm not so sure that I'm going to like that. I LOVE Cap but never liked the Punisher.
But Cap is alive and will be back.
I read the Initiative one shot and also read the Joe Q response to it and I do not believe any of it. I think it is a publicity stunt like the death of Superman was and it worked just like the death of Superman just not on as big a scale. Comics are like Soap Operas. You are never dead for long. I will also say iut was a Mistake to do that and one more reason it is getting harder and harder for me to say Proudly that I'm a Marvel Fan.
