I really like the Initiative. It has everything I want in it: Boot camp, cover-ups, insults to emo boys, nice art, cool characters, and a gutsy storyline. C'mon, they killed off MVP in the first issue! I'm glad they switched this to an ongoing series because I can't wait to see where this goes, especially when the newbies and instructors have to answer to Stark and the other Avengers.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is officially on the bubble now. It's not so much that it's bad, it's just really kinda bland. It feels like the Spider-Man stories I had been reading for years before JMS took over Amazing and while that's nice and all, I'd like something more I suppose. The next arc will make or break the title for me, so whatever happens between now and when One More Day starts will decide for me. For those curious about what happened, turns out evil Uncle Ben wasn't that evil, but he was pretty dead. The guy who looked like him brandishing the gun was Chameleon from the year 2211 (I think) and he fights Spider-Man and the Sandman when Spidey's buddy for the week comes in to save the day. Sandman and his dad buddy up and the story ends.
Just got done reading this and I have to agree with you. This storyline is really not doing much for me. I thought maybe it was just because I'm really disliking the art, but you obviously are feeling the same way I am.
No review of the best thing Marvel is putting out? Dark Tower#3 was great. I am liking the back up history story in the back. The extra panel are nice. Can not wait until we get to the all new stuff.

Heralds of Galactus was interesting. Like Omega Flight, the first half was penciled by Scott Kollins, but for some reason it looks a lot worse. I suppose it was a rush job or something. Anyway, Firelord is hunting down Centurians and lets a few of them go when he sees them rebelling against Ravenous. The second story with Silver Surfer has him taking on Terenerbrous (I know I spelled that one wrong) and Aegis. He tries to hold them off and gets slapped down quickly so instead makes an all or nothing gamble by surfing across the energy wave that imprisoned them and channeling it through himself. They get swallowed by the energy and the Surfer almost dies, but Galactus arrives and restores him. A pretty good story and we learn a little more about the being who appeared during the beginning of the universe created by the Cosmic Consonance.
We also find out more about the origin of Skreet, whom we haven't seen much of since "The Galactus Event" at the end of Annihilation. They never mentioned her personally at all, but it did pretty much reveal the original intent behind her being, not to mention, how she's so powerful.
Galactus should really stop bragging, though. "Yeah, we had a Lucifer back when the Universe began. I pwned him. Good times."

Yeah, I was hoping for it (The Initiative) to be just a mini, for my wallet's sake, but I was impressed by the art style and the story kept me interested thus far. It had a bit darker tone than I expected, at least towards the end. I'd like to see some of the state line-ups as well. Hopefully Michigan gets someone better than Great Lakes Avengers. Anyway, I'm on board until my opinion changes.
There now called the Great Lakes Initiative. No joke.
The Great Lakes Inititive are to Wisconsin, so ur lucky.

How can u not mention the Zombie Runaways in this? DC man u disapoint me.
Blob is running away from the zombies in 4 panels and in all 4 u see Niko, Chase, Lucy in the Sky, and I think Ultrons kid(who didnt grow on me yet) eating Old Lace.
This book is solid gold, I just wish we got to see how it spread so quickly.
I loved MZ vs AOD #2. The ending was so unexpected and was really cool.
The Albion story in New Excalibur has the potential to be really interesting and great, or Claremont can destroy New Excalibur for me entirley. We'll see in about 2 months.

Uh... Avengers Initaitive starts off with Gauntlet in what is presumibly Iraq... How long have when been their in the Marvel 616? I don't remember that coming up previously. I thought it was one of those "Lets ignore it" type real world events.
Is this the first time it's mentioned/shown or did i miss something?

I enjoyed Firelord. Even after the infamous issue of ASM where Spidey beats him up, I've always taken Firelord as the red headed stepchild of the cosmic characters and always not seriously.
Not anymore. The way he talks. He will end you without flinching. That is the way a former Herald should be talking. And his reasoning is flawless. Loved it.
Silver Surfer's half....not so much. So Tenebrous and Aegis (or as I always affectionately call them T and A ) are punked. Galactus talks smack. Whoop de do. There has to be something else. If there isn't, it's a sad plot device used to further Annihilation only and that's something I didn't think Giffen would ever do. Anyway, Silver Surfer rustoleum covering gets cracked again luring T and A to "the Crunch" and seals them again....I guess. To be honest, it's not explained (to me) what exactly happened. Just that T and A are done for. Silver Surfer is fixed (again) and just like that Galactus is hungry again. The end.
So the good that was Firelord balanced with the carp that was Surfer....
Bring on Annihilation: Conquest and the Nova Weekly.

Whats up with his arm? Did they mean to rip off Southpaw? Will MVP regen? Very little Rage in the first issue which sucked.

I don't think I'd call it a "rip off" considering Dan Slott (writer of She-Hulk) created both characters and Gauntlet's first appearance (albeit a future scene) was in She-Hulk where he inspired a "possible future" Southpaw to reform, become a superhero, and even take his daughter on as her sidekick.

Pretty much for the first time as otheriwse it is pretty hard to explain why the Avengers didnt go over there and end it in 10 seconds and then go back to their little civil war. Real life wars tend to be glossed over as it is hard to explain superowered heroes not affecting the war. Thus in DC for WW2 they gave Hitler a scepter which kept the jheores forom getting involved and Marvel didnt have as powerful of guys till the 60's (at least none that wernt retconned in)
