In my opinion, giving marvel ares range and 2 bolts looks kinda broken... he can shoot once or twice, but he hasn't infinite weapons to keep shooting. I assume Dc Ares ranged attacks are mystical or something, but i can't imagine marvel ares throwing axes and swords
Both versions are very much willing to use bows, javelins, crossbows, automatic rifles, Uzis, plasma weapons, etc. They define the soldier and the general and will use whatever weapon they feel to be appropriate for the situation.
Also DemonRS, you write in your damage comparison that the Marvel Ares can use his perplex to help allies. That's incorrect. Ares can only use Tactics to modify his own combat values. On clicks 3-5, if Ares isn't going for 5 straight damage, then he's going to boost his range to surprise someone, or boost his AV to hit high defenses like KC Green Lantern or the Fantastic Four.

I'd take the Marvel flavor of Ares. He's just that much more flexible than the DC version.
Holding a the 3D desk, and T-Bolted to Suicide squad, he can push on his first click, gain a +2 DV, and be healed back to full by pushing a cheap bystander (Lian Harper, of course) next to him. Paired with Shellhead, he would be at a 21 DV until your next turn.
Personally, I'd use MOE, as he can be exceptional on all clicks if played properly (max 8 damage on flurry clicks, holding a HO for the first attack; 7 on the first holding a HO; 6 on BCF rolls). Unless you're going to be targeting a 17+ DV character and can't risk missing an attack roll, use his special power to boost his AV, otherwise pump it up to 4-5.
dc ares' sculpt is so much better than the marvel version that, that should be the tie-breaker. plus the fact the dc version is a lot harder to acquire as a collector due to the fact it's from an out of print set. playability wise you can add a plus to marvel for not being retired also.

But we have to take into account the DC version is a flier whereas the marvel version is not. Therefore putting a 1 point pog in front of the Marvel version shuts down his ranged combat capabilities. Sure he could kill the pog 5 times over, but that's an action that needs to be wasted to actually make an attack. With this in mind the DC version has a slight advantage when to ranged combat.
Last time I checked, putting a 1pt pog in front a flyer will stop their range also. granted they can still "range" attack the pog, but neither Ares has RCE so I dont see where being a flyer gives the DC Ares a range advantage over the Marvel version. A big advantage for movement, but not for range. IMHO

Yeah, but MAN OH MAN is it going to suck when Marvel ares is 14 squares away from DC ares, dang no outwit for you DC Ares. Or better yet hiding behind blocking terrain then he uses running shot and pops out of nowhere "HIII AREESS".

I agree with this. In fact, Marvel's Ares having 2 bolts helps him in this regard, as he can target the pog for 1 and another target for 4 without losing much (before the pog bases him, of course). DC's Ares can either smear the pog for 5 before it bases him, or phase away from it (barring crushing it ). The only thing that would be nice for him is that he could keep his object (say, a desk?) by ranging the pog in BtB, Marvel's Ares, if he's based, would have to burn the object or risk a breakaway.
