So does the LE POlaris officially represent the time when she was possessed by Malice? I was never really sure, although I've used her on my Marauders teams before.
The story on E Polaris is pretty much correct. She fought off Malice's influence only to be captured by Zaladane and taken to the Savage Land. Zaladane claimed they were sisters (though at this time, Lorna wasn't thought to be Mags' daughter) and used HE's machines to steal Lorna's magnetic powers. Lorna then manifested some weird secondary power, converting negative emotions to physical strength/toughness. She was jumped by a group of sailors, rescued by Banshee, and taken straight back to Muir Isle... which just happened to be one of the Shadow King's bases. Uh-oh! SK took her and used her as his conduit to the physical plane. During the Muir Island Saga, she was rescued and SK was defeated, while Zaladane was killed by Mags in the Savage Land. Lorna's original powers returned just in time for the 90's relaunch that put her back with Havok on the new X-Factor.
Technically, the Rookie should be 'Lorna Dane', as she didn't have a codename during the Silver Age. She didn't use 'Polaris' until she was mind-controlled by Eric the Red (yes, she's spent much of her career being someone's byotch).
The LE is probably Malice, as Lorna was never a memeber of the Brotherhood or Hellfire Club. Odd that none of the other Marauders or Sinister have the TA... can you say 'afterthought'?
On a weird family note... the IC Scarlet Witch can be repainted green and teal to make an awesome Silver Age Lorna Dane.

If the Rookie represents the time from her introduction in the sixties until she lost her magnetic powers in the late eighties, then she can be called Polaris - she did go by that name for quite a while nonetheless.

Yes, that's true. I already have a late X-Factor repaint (red costume) and would like to make three more - the aforementioned Scarlet Witch repaint (Silver Age Lorna Dane), 80's purple costume Polaris (still on Rookie dial, I guess) and late 80's Malice... maybe stealing Typhoid Mary's shoulder pads?

Yeah, I forgot. Sabretooth was legitimately a Brotherhood member though (under Mystique, IIRC).
EDIT: Come to think of it, both Sabretooth and Mystique were (unwilling) X-Factor members with Polaris. Maybe future versions can have the X-Men TA?
I have always loved the Vet Polaris. In my opinion, she is the best piece. I know everyone hipes the LE, but I would rather have a TK'er that can then fly out and smash people for 4!
Much better piece.

1) You should have included Dr. Polaris in this review!
2) I won a Factory Set of Legacy because my final opponent misplayed his vet Polaris. Here is the sorry tale:
First, the event was a single elimination, no time limit, 300-point sealed event. The sponsor HATES stallers, so we played till someone was wiped out, or cried UNCLE! This was 3 boosters of whatever you could buy, I cannot quite remember my build, it was from I think 2 Legacy and 1 Ultimates...but I remember having 4 figures with activation clicks to choose from (none made it to the team).
Anywho, I make it to the final round with a team that isn't so hot, but it does have some mobility (phasing Jinx, Rookie Ultimate Marvel Girl) and the store announces that we cannot play longer than 60 minutes, or the local police will be bye to enforce the curfew! My opponent wins map role, and immediately huddles on a 4-corners building and turtles (and stalls too...as if he is going to risk coming off the roof to engage my figures)
So I set my team up to bum's rush the roof top: Jinx can phase, Marvel Girl can TK, anothe figure has high movement and can get up the stairs...to make a long story short, I get a hit in...and he backs up trying to buy time to use Raven to heal up some figures (including a lightly damaged Polaris)...but I base BOTH his Raven and his Polaris...he totally panicks and INSTEAD of just phasing away with Raven, and INSTEAD of an automatic Force Blast of my character off the roof...he opts for a low percentage ranged attack by Polaris (which will be a push too!) that misses.
The rest was history. He eventually did realize that trying to keep Raven alive was his best bet...but he parked her on the edge of the building...the next turn he realized why R Marvel Girl ran AWAY from the rooftop...he obviously thought she was afraid of Raven's ranged attack....when really she was just lining up the TK Heavy object shot for the kill.
I've never had a more satisfying win against a staller/turtler/rooftop hugger. Thanks Polaris!
Great review. I've recently had the opportunity to play Polaris LE in an all mutant team alongside Armor wars magneto. To say the least she definately was a force to be reckoned with.
But of the four pieces. i find the rookie easiest to play. Good damage value and the x-men TA to boot, and normally carrying a vet havok. Ah the good ol' days....
i think polaris lost her magnetic powers on genosha, the genegineer thought that her magnetic powers were not valuable so he changed her powers to fit better to what genosha needed(strong workers)
EDIT: Come to think of it, both Sabretooth and Mystique were (unwilling) X-Factor members with Polaris. Maybe future versions can have the X-Men TA?
And they were on Rouges X-team in the #190+ (somewhere around there, the Supernovas thing) X-men issues as well, but I don't think we'll get a X TA for them, not without the REV (ok, maybe a LE)(plus I don't think they, at least Sabretooth, should have the TA)
also, great review, use to play the R but now I will probably play the V more...
