I wasn't a big fan of hers before but, now after reading her in Detective, I'd actually buy that (you know, if Dini were writing it) ...

I'm in the corner of readers who has enjoyed the Zatanna appearances in Detective. I don't feel it's been forced at all and I've liked the interplay between the two.
As for the Zatanna series, I'd have to say a definite maybe. It might keep my interest for a few arcs, but I doubt I'd stay with it for any length of time.
The only thing I was getting tired of in detective is something that is(currently) being fixed, and that is the lack of continuity with Batman. I found it interesting that Joker was terrified of Bats(not to mention still in bandages after getting shot in the face) in the mostly-prose issue illustrated by John Van Fleet, but was back to his usual antics for the Zatanna arc. As well as every other appearance he's made in the book recently...
I love Dini's issues of Detective. In fact, those are the only ones I will buy. I think that Dini and Chuck Dixon are the two writers that write the best Bat family stories. I strongly dislike Grant Morrison's work and won't buy or read any. I'm avoiding all the RIP stories.
To set the record straight, Madame Mirage is the comic book version of Paul's wife, not Zatanna. If Paul is really going to have an ongoing Zatanna book, sign me up!
Against nepotism in all it's forms. Especially in a family-run business.
#1: Are there really plans for a Zatanna series? I haven't heard anything, but she is a favorite character and I would definately pick it up.
#1: Someone mentioned Zatanna and Constantine, which I had known about, but does anyone know ANY of the issue #'s of Hellblazer where Zatanna has appeared? I've read a fair amount of Hellblazer, but I only ever remember her being in the issue that dealt with Constantine's 40th birthday party, which was written by Garth Ennis.
Help would really be appreciated!
Also, in relation to this topic, Detective Comics is the only Batman book I read, as I think Dini is the only one I've found who writes a human Batman.

Most of Constantine and Zatanna's on page relations were in Books of Magic: Life During Wartime.
I'm pretty sure Zatanna kills. I think it is much more interesting when a character has the capacity to kill. Police officers sometimes struggle with the power they wield when it comes to that, but most heroes put themselves above it. It always felt to me like they are saying they are better for they do not kill. I'd be a very disgruntled police officer in a superhero universe.
You know he's so much more like Spiderman than you will ever, ever be.

Grr Double post.

I can fully agree with that. I hadn't read Batman regularly in years (as a regular reader, certainly skimmed through it in the shop).
Dini gave me back an enjoyable Batman yarn without the demon mythology, or uber anti social bat.
Then again, I loved the original Animated Series (B:TAS). It had the best Batman and supporting cast of any medium. So this fits in perfectly with it.
