As for the figures themselves, I am thinking about using Human Bomb as a substitute for Rex Splode on a Teen Team substitute (if I can trade fr Invincible and Robot that is) - I need a figure that has EE and some close combat capabilities, and I think HB is as close as I'll come. The PW doesn't seem accurate, but OTOH it is unlikely that it will come into play...
One thought that springs to mind is that doesn't he sometimes hurl a bunch of little explosions at a time? That could be good enough to count as a pulse wave I reckon. I guess my spare Bomb may end up as a Rex, rather than as an original Human Bomb now...

Quite frankly I haven't read that much of Invincible yet - just the first two TPBs. But yeah, you probably could find an explanation for Pulse Wave if you really wanted to.
Don't forget that a pulse wave attack is a ranged attack and you can't make ranged attacks if a target is adjacent. So someone who uses pulse wave won't want to be carrying anyone unless they don't plan on using pw.
Not quite right. Ranged attacks are only prohibited when based by an opposing character. So Carry and PW friend & foe as you like...just don't get based.
God is smarter than we are....

In infinite crisis I think he took off his helmet mask thingy and blew cheetah away and everyone else until Bizarro beat him to death.
My friend uses Dr. Alchemy to TK Johnny in his IL team. I had this weird habit of forgetting about what Johnny did...I got to close and "boom!" he pulsed like 5 of my figs.
For me Mr. Sorrow has ended up a taxi. I played him with CJ Despero, Dr. Alchemy and a dirty, dirty GCD. Sorrow carried the crooked cop around to give Despero enhancement. Despero did all of the heavy lifting for the team with everyone else tasked to optimize support. I don't think I ever used Sorrow to PW as he was always too near the big D. Definitely not how things worked out in Virtue and Vice, but it was fun to dust off Angry Alien Pepto (and the borken GCD is so wrong to pair with him).
Human Bomb I have passed up every time. I can't see him getting enough out of the ranged powers and can't make myself consider him for a close combat piece. This means he will probably surprise me when I finally do face him.

Reason: enhancement shouldn't be enchantment...
I'm not the only one that thinks Human Bomb and several others should be able to use their PW even when based, am I? Think about it, he's getting jumped, what does he do? KABOOM!
Thanks for another great article! Keep them coming and Heroclix stays alive in my mind, while we wait for lawyers and investors to decide when/if 'clix comes back!
To my mind, Johnny Sorrow seemed like a feeble figure compared to the deadly threat he was in the comic. Human bomb should have been able to blow up anytime, but not hurt Invulnerable figs (since he couldn't kill Bizarro or Supes, for instance).
I think that lots of us think that Johnny Sorrow is under-powered. When I first saw his point cost I was like Wha-hunh?!
But after seeing the dial, I've given it some deeper thought. For one thing, (aside from a 16 range, 7 damage, 14 attack) there's no way to accurately depict a one shot KO power, which is what he supposedly has.
I've read the comics. I've rarely, if ever seen him use the power on anyone who wasn't a normal human being.
Most "normal" human beings in the game are represented by pogs.
Johnny Sorrow can kill a whole lot of pogs with one shot using his Pulse Wave.
hence, I think it's a pretty fair depiction of him, given the game mechanics.

WHY OH WHY, WIZKIDS? WHY DIDN'T YOU GIVE HUMAN BOMB SHARPSHOOTER?
Seriously, guys? He blows up in your face. If anyone deserves Sharpshooter on Pulsewave, its him. 2 range pulsewave? Worthless without sharpshooter. Worthless.
If this figure is errata'd to have Sharpshooter, (which will never happen unfortunatly) he'd get played a TON more.

I don't know that he deserves it for the EE, but I'd make an exception for pulse wave:
When this character uses Pulsewave he is not considered adjacent to other characters for ranged attack purposes or some such.

Johnny probably ought to have a higher AV when he gets his special: maybe he should start with it insead of getting it late.
Human Bomb, other than the utility problem created by the short range, seems pretty accurate.
IMO Pulsewave needs revision to allow it when based. It's logically hard for Green Arrow to get off a shot when you're in his face, but why would someone grabbing Human Bomb (or any other PW figure) keep them from doing the "kablooey" thing?
