however it is about the figures, not imaginary ones, if i play online i wouldnt play with new sets, that we cant actiually collect the figures for me that tales the best part of the game away, but online play is good from what ive playedover the past couple of days
agreed, let it free let it free. I was merely commending the effort. The idea as a whole is cost effective. And I look at it from a business model point of veiw. Thats my background and I always asses ideas with a S,W,O.T. analysis. I understand peoples reality then again I realize the opportunity and both veiws can be supported. However it is an un imaginable blessing that there are those who desire out of the goodness of their hearts to make it a free service for those of us who desire to participate and to that I must tip my hat off.
Really do be, or really do be do. There is no try

I would have to say this....which I was waiting for someone to say first....if money were to change hands for this, it would definitely bring in tons of legal and copyright issues, even if the money was on a donation basis just to pay for the fees associated with hosting. You are also looking at being sued for infringement on the actual game engine that Heroclix uses.
A reason I liked this when it was on the Down Lo. Sometimes when things like this get out there, and more eyes see it, the wrong eyes then see it. Not saying that will happen, but ya never know.
Playing Heroclix online on a Mac is the same as playing it on a PC except for 2 different things.
1st for a Mac, after you download Crow's file instead of double clicking the heroclix.exe file, you want to double click the heroclix.jar file. You also want to make sure your JAVA is up to date. You can do this from the system preferences application by clicking on "update". Most Macs made in the last year or so will have up to date JAVA running on them anyhow, least update enough to run the file.
2nd you need to download HamachiX. This application will allow you to connect to other players as well as host your own games. This version is slightly different from the PC version as it does not have built in Chat. You can follow the Hamachi instructions for the PC to get HamachiX working on your Mac.
An additional program you may want to have installed would be some sort of Instant Messenging/Voice Chat software to talk to the other players. It is easier this way then typing out everything you are doing. I perfer Skype and if you are looking to play me a game, please use Skype. ^_^
After that all the instructions for the PC version will be the same, so just follow them to get your game running.

This is exactly right. I'm not interested in making money, a statement, or anything but being able to play the game and come up with cool, creative set ideas. If someone from Topps so much as asks me nicely, I will run like a screaming ninny. Until then, I hope anybody involved in the property will simply see this as fan service and free promotion of the game line. There is even precedent for this - Magic the Gathering. WotC eventually acknowledged the existence of Apprentice, a fan-made way to play over the 'net. I'm fairly certain nobody got burned, but I'm not interested in pushing my luck.

Agreed.
I see it as free advertising/promotion, regardless of whether HC was a waning property or not. There's no guarantee that another HC set (minus HoT) will be produced in a timely fashion to prevent the loss of interest of die-hard HC minis players/collectors. WK never complained about HCO when miniatures were being produced, as there simply was no competition: if you want to play a miniatures games, you buy the figures.
Keep in mind that in comparison to other games, HC has a very small and specific base, and only a certain percentage of those players/fans are even aware of or interested in the program. I don't see 'clix becoming the next Sudoku or Monopoly any time soon.
In regards to MTG, Magic Workstation is not exclusive to any particular CCG/TCG and is charging a fee for a license (?$20) in order to unlock the full feature set. However, it is implied that MW (and Apprentice) are going to be used mostly for playing MTG. To contrast, HCOnline is 100% free and is not trying to deceive anyone.
If the new HC owners suddenly decided to release a new Indy set featuring with many of the same characters (with somewhat similar or different dials), having them in a tangible form wouldn't discourage players from making a purchase. It's akin to playing air guitar or "miming" on a cardboard cutout vs playing a Fender or Gibson. No contest.
Also, if HC was officially put online by said company, it would be in a completely different form, perhaps similar by necessity (there's only so many ways you can display a dial/figure on a map image, even in 3-D) but unique enough to separate itself from a cruder, community-generated product. As it stands, I use the program for testing customs and the occasional online game, but otherwise stick with my minis.
In regards to the concept of re-developing Heroclix Online as a profitable (decent) game:
I would be more then happy to have a serious project again (I left the development field to start my own non-computer related business several years ago).
There are a few problems that would need to be discussed before the feasibility of this idea could be determined. However the development of a much more professional game would be technically possible.
If anyone is interested in this idea (by that I mean: could fill one of the needed functions of such a project) let me know.
i have nobody to play heroclix with in my area. and i would LOVE to see a CROW hc from the graphic novel. erik draven would make an excellent heroclix. as would ash from evil dead
I have tried to go onto HeroclixHangout2 with the password 12345 and it keeps saying "The maximum amount of peers on this network is reached, you cannot join this network at this time. The network remains offline."
Is there anything else I can do?
I just retried trying to get on here and after I typed in the 12345 password it says "A network with the name HeroclixHangout2 was setup by someone else with a password different than the one you are trying to use. You can either enter the correct password or create a network with a different name."
Isn't there an easier way to do this? I had no problem getting the HCOL stuff with every clix (even the HOT), but I am having no success with actually hooking up with someone to play with. I have a Mac if it helps.

Join HeroclixHangout3, which I just opened.
Of course, since you have a Mac you'll have to find a way to actually chat with people, since you can't do so on HamachiX (apparently because Mac users aren't important enough for them to add chat functionality!). For a start, you can use AIM and add people like myself (JoshCrw), ibeatdrew, and anybody else you can find who uses AIM, so you can have a way to say "hi, I'm looking for a game".
edited to add:
The author of HamachiX helpfully adds the following:
"The Windows version of hamachi has a chat feature. Why does the Mac OS X version not offer this feature?
There is no need for this feature. Coincidentally --in fact it was on purpose -- Mac OS X offers Bonjour as well as iChat as part and parcel of the OS, where hamachi supports Bonjour; ergo you can open the Bonjour window in iChat and should see any other peers there currently online on the networks you are online on, from where you can hit them up and chat to them."
... ridiculous.

I am getting closer and closer to looking for a single chat room for all of us HCOL players.
It would possibly use IRC, which I believe works fine for Mac people, and in this way we wouldn't be scattered over a bunch of Hamachi channels (although Hamachi could still be used for IP purposes to get around firewall issues).
