i got the tales of the sinestro corp trade (paper back ) and that wasnt part of it ... SPOILER
In the newest issue of Green Lantern #50 ......
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
The scarecrow says now that he has the ring he is now afraid again and it feels good ... does that lead to what i was saying .. i dont know.
It was the smaller back up stories in the main Green Lantern books.
Not the Tales of the Sinestro Corps War collection.
Trust me, it happened.
I'll dig out my copy of the issue if I have to, but the Sinestro Corps members are placed in pods to experience their greatest fears (it is part of the brain washing they undergo).
I'm going to hit him really, really hard with a big green boxing glove............ I'm kidding. - Hal Jordan
Amon Sur was the one they showed doing this being led along by Lyssa Drak.
I also remember this story. Lyssa Drak makes note of the fact that Bedovian (the Sinestro Corps sniper) lives in a sensory deprivation chamber of his own, namely his shell.
The idea that every other color ring is possessed by those who have a lot of said emotion; however one could argue that there are 2 exceptions. When granted a yellow ring the ring says "____, you have the ability in instill great fear." and for a blue ring it says, "_____, you have the ability to inspire great hope."
It is true that Barry is full of hope, but according to the ring it's more important that he inspires hope as well. The same is true for the yellow rings as well.
Batman only recived the ring because he was "capable of causing great fear" and when the ring realized it could not overpower him with fear it ran away from him in fear, not to mention he was a previous bearer of a GL ring, which supposively tainted him according to the SC.
I am SO glad you started this thread! I was actually just searching other comic book threads wondering about this earlier this morning. When Black Lanters look at people and see fear in them (yellow), they aren't seeing the ability to scare others, but actual fear in that person themselves. This would either a) make the yellow rings an anomaly among the rings, therefore weakening the concept and plot integrity, or b) proving your theory.
Bravo! And rep to you!
ps - Batman is only Batman because Bruce Wayne was filled with fear. He created Batman as a way of facing that fear head-on and using it as an outlet. Besides, if he didn't have inner fears, Scarecrow's gas wouldn't work on him (it does). As for Arkillo, who knows? Indigestion, maybe?
