Yeah, VGA sorry man, but I think you're wrong on this one. Opportunist and A.S.D. can most definitely be used together.... and an attack roll is definitely not a combat value, so it is not subject to the rule of 3.
I'd go deeper into explaining why I believe it works.... but Quebb already pretty much summed up what I would have said anyway.
Forum Team Building Contest #2 and #3 Winner, & runner up for #1 and #4.
Yup, that works just fine.
It does not work for regular crit hits because the rule book defines a critical hit as a roll of double sixes, and Opportunist does not change the actual roll, just the result. However, And Stay Down (and the Extraordinary Day BFC) redefines critical hits to be dependent on the result of the dice roll, thus making a change from Opportunist possible.
This only works if you have Extraordinary Day in play, is what your saying?

I may have came to my conclusions by the wrong method, I'm not sure, I'd have to go back an re-read my post...
...But I never said they weren't compatible. I said they WERE compatible and could be used together. But thanks for the correction. It's not a combat value, so subject to the Rule of 3.

Nope. It works with Extraordinary Day OR with And Stay Down!. Both the BFC and the Feat are spelled the same way : in both case an attack roll resulting in a 11 or a 12 is a critical hit (so a double 6 is no longer needed in both cases)
In fact, the BFC makes a much better combo with Opportunist.

Yeah... but the problem is the BFC can only be played once in a tournament. It's a lot easier to build around the feat.
Another nice thing about Extraordinary Day is that it also redefines critical misses, so Opportunist can be used to neutralize critical misses when EOD is in play.
However, And Stay Down (and the Extraordinary Day BFC) redefines critical hits to be dependent on the result of the dice roll, thus making a change from Opportunist possible.
I know I'm bringing back an old thread, but I don't think the wordings have changed too much and given Osiris' Trait, this will come up more. I can understand the ruling with regard to And Stay Down, but is this the correct ruling with regard to Extraordinary Day?
From the Player's Guide:
Quote
OPPORTUNIST
Cost: 10
Prerequisite: Charge or Running Shot or Willpower; point value of 50 points or more.
Choose a character. If the character has zero action tokens at the end of your turn (before tokens are removed from characters), put an opportunist token on this card if there are four or fewer opportunist tokens on this card.
When the character or an adjacent friendly character makes an attack, after making the roll you can remove any number of opportunist tokens from this card and modify the result of the attack roll by +1 for each token removed. If opportunist tokens are removed when another character makes an attack, deal the character 1 unavoidable damage after the action resolves.
Opportunist indicates that you modify the result of the attack roll, not the attack roll itself.
From the Player's Guide:
Quote
AND STAY DOWN
Cost: 6
Prerequisite: Exploit Weakness or Super Strength Choose a character. When the character is not using an object as part of a close combat attack, an attack roll result of 11 or 12 is a critical hit.
And Stay Down changes the nature of an attack roll. Now an attack roll result of 11 of 12 is a critical hit. Since Opportunist changes the attack roll result, I see how these two effects interact.
From the Player's Guide:
Quote
EXTRAORDINARY DAY
A roll of 11 or 12 on any attack roll is a critical hit. A roll of 2 or 3 on any attack roll is a critical miss.
Extraordinary Day does not change the nature of an attack roll. Rather it changes the rolls that qualify as a critical hit. The language of Extraordinary Day tracks the language for a critical hit normally.
From p. 9 of the 2010 Core Rulebook:
Quote
If you roll a 12 (two 6s) on an attack roll, you automatically the target, regardless of what you needed to roll to hit. This is called a critical hit.
Both require the roll itself, not the result of that roll, to be a specific number.
Given that, I don't think an attack roll result changed by Opportunist to an 11 with Extraordinary Day in play should actually be a critical hit. Is this correct or not? If not, why not?

I would say it is correct because a crit miss with opportunist is still a miss no matter how much you modify it.
