Meh, I don't care. It's gonna happen every set, and if Wizkids and their distributors won't do anything, whatcha gonna do?
Besides, once these hit in more abundance, the prices will plummet.
I won't care IF they produce enough prize kits that it doesn't matter that their sole control over the handling of the kits is a sticker. Currently, I do care because my venue didn't get a Thor kit of any sort, while plenty of non-venues did get them. I'm really not inclined to buy another kit out of my own pocket so that my venue has something this go round.
There was a Robocop III you know (so don't be racist)
I could care less what someone spends their money on. As long as they aren't buying children for slave labor or something, who gives a ####. It's their money. And $50 to you might seem like a lot - to some people $50 is the equivelant of $5 to you. Let's not forget there are some actual rich heroclix collectors/players out there.
Oh and I just saw the black lantern in person, and it is 10 times better than what I thought it actually was. It's tiny and looks totally to scale! That is really, really cool.
I think some of you are confusing the Black Lanterns with the actual prize kit.
The prize kit has to be ordered & paid for.
These Black Lanterns? These were simply sent out free to shops who pre-ordered product. The shops didn't have to do anything (including know about them!).
WK is operating on the faulty assumption that anyone who orders their product is running tournies.
And so are alot of you.

Most intelligent post I've read on here in awhile.

How is it really different? The idea is that it's a horribly stupid to distribute prize support with no connection to events. This holds for the Black Lanterns or the prize kits. Just as there were shops that ordered HoT kits and didn't receive them, I'm betting that we'll hear of shops that pre-ordered and didn't get black lanterns.
I don't think anyone is assuming that anyone who ordes is running tourneys. That's why it's so dumb to distribute support to anyone who orders. I don't think Wk is making any such assumption either. They're just doing it the easy way instead of the right way.

It sucks that this is still happening, but there is no competitive play program installed right now so there is little we can do to prevent it. The biggest thing I can say is boycott those that are selling the stuff. If the demand is not there then they won't make the kind of money they expect. As always with miniatures games, if you want something bad enough just wait and it will be cheaper.

Yup because the only fans worthy of a Black Lantern are fans that live within a reasonable distance of a venue and have the means to get to and play in a tournament.
"Hey Mr. Veteran, with no legs, shut in the Midwest without a store within miles. I know you've spent thousands on your heroclix collection faithfully over the past 8 years, but that little plastic lantern you bought on eBay... it's transaction over eBay is destroying the foundation of our community. Can I have it back?"

I think what ccs was trying to say is that no one knew these were coming when they pre-ordered their cases, so there was a surprise when they did receive them. Because of this, it was telling the stores, "thank you for your purchase, here is a free gift". And, thus, could be done with how you deem fit.
These aren't part of the OP kit, and because of that, don't really fall under the title of NOT FOR RESALE. So, the shops can do what they want with them. Should they hold tournaments and use them as prize support? Sure, but they do not have to.
I was in the group where none of my local venues received either of the HoT kits and may not see the B&B ones either. So, ebay is where I have to go, but I will wait and grab them at a cheaper price
No rest until the great works of Anthony Edward Stark are in clix forms
Soon...his works will be realized... in 2013 the Hall of Armor in clix!

ha a little bit extreme but there is some point in there. i don't have a venue anywhere within a 5 hour drive. thats why all games i play are home games with friends. ive never played in a tournament in my life. i have bought cases of every set since infinity challenge so why should i not be able to go on ebay and get prize support. understand however that the stores shouldn't sell but the winners could and should. and no way will i pay 50 dollars for an object. at most 10. i paid 9.99 for the gold anvil and got the silver for free with it.
Is it me, or does this seem like it's gotten more ridiculous than it was in the past? Wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that you don't actually have to be doing organized play to get a prize kit.
I'm gonna disagree and go with the "its equally ridiculous".
We've had mad eBay prices on lots and lots of things. We've had people sell things earlier than they should. None of this is new. Repeat, "none".
Con Exclusives you got for free for buying a whole bunch of stuff you don't want used to go for mad bucks.
Purple Ringed participation prizes sold for top dollar for a while.
Uniques from the old sets of high demand figures went for over 100 bucks (Nightcrawler, KC Superman).
In a fit of crazed rage someone burned an LE Feat and videoed himself to make some kind of personal point.
Judges and Venues have sold prizes BEFORE they were available to players to command top dollar.
After cons where they used to sell the newest set first (really, kiddies, they did cool things like that) you would see REV pieces (and Uniques) selling for huge money compared to the value they would be on the day of the set release.
Everyone has an intrinsic value set on everything. If "you" feel a Black Lantern is worth $5 and would want it for $5 that does not impact the person who thinks a Black Lantern is worth $20. He has his reasons that $20 is worth the feeling he will be getting upon owning that Black Lantern.
This seller is hoping someone will spend $50 on this Black Lantern to get that good feeling from owning it.
I don't get the moral outrage at the price someone is asking. Nor the over-zealous rage at the store that it came from.
I get that the store is not doing what it is supposed to do. I would not patron such a store. But really, its the people who want something so badly that cause this to happen. You don't see Avengers Taskmaster going for $50 nor U Hush from Legacy. The reason, demand isn't high enough.
Could WK do something about it? I'm sure they could try. But they need to ask themselves, is it worth the time, effort, and paying someone to make this their focus?
In the grand scheme of things the person who drops $50 on the Black Lantern won't feel as excited 24 hours after its opened. And a few weeks from now when Black Lanterns are going for $8-$12 he may even feel bummed. And hopefully - "hopefully" mind you, - that person won't be as quick to throw money on a depreciating item. And eventually all of our price points may be more inline.
That being said, I do get the feeling the people who are most upset are those who want it just as badly but are miffed that someone wants it more. Have patience, grasshopper. I own 2 chases without having spent any extra money on them - and neither were pulled from my boosters.
I got U Nightcrawler when he was around $75 in a simple trade.
I got a Dark Phoenix for the same price as someone did at a Con without going to a Con.
You will get your Black Lantern. You may have to wait a little while (with Print & Play and a Green Lantern toy you can make your own) but eventually it can be yours - for a lot less than $50.
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.

Least intelligent post I've seen on here in awhile.
One thread - two ends of the spectrum. I love this site.
