An interesting question regarding TAs came up the other night when I was playing with Ultimate Xmen TA vs an Amazon horde. Can you target "Amazons" with the UX or 2000AD TAs when they are using the ata? The confusion comes over the fact that the ta targets a team, not a team s
symbol. For the record, it was my opponent that brought it up and I can see both sides...

A team ability is a team ability; the symbol (or lack there of) is irrelevant.
In fact, if you target a wildcard using the chosen TA, you'd get the bonus, too.
Older PACs used to be phrased to use Team MEMERBSHIP. The New PACs dont use that phrasing any more. They for the most part use "Team ABILITY" as the new phrasing.
From the FF rulebook p. 18

Team symbols. A team symbol on a character’s base indicates
the character is a member of that team and possesses that team ability,
as described on the Powers and Abilities Card. Not all characters have team symbols.
Its the Team Symbol not the TA that grants membership. But as NormalView points out, that deliniation is no longer all that important.
With regards to the New Rulebook. The line is pretty much religated to the glossary. So maybe the intent going forward is to leave the concept of "Team Membership" in the past.
However, oddly enough Team "Membership" is still used when discusiing the Wildcard TAs. (see New BN PAC)

Perhaps your question hasnt been answered yet?
I will post the PAC wording which I think is the heart of your question

Ultimate X-Men ™
At any time during the game, a character using the Ultimate X-Men team ability can choose an opposing character or a team; this choice can be made only once per game even if the character has used another team ability. When this character attacks the chosen character or an opposing character using the team ability of the chosen team, modify this character’s attack value by +1.
The question (I assume) is what constitutes a team?:
Do keywords count as a Team?
Do ATA Keywords count as a Team?
Do Team Symbols count as a Team?
Do Team Abilities count as a Team?
Do Wildcards count as a Team of the Team you called when they WC to that TA?
Do Thunderbolts that are Using the TA count as the Team you called?
"A Jester unemployed is nobody's fool." - The Court Jester "And so he says, I don't like the cut of your jib, and I go, I says it's the only jib I got, baby!
After re-reading the FF PAC, the FF Rulebook, and the question above.
I would surmise that only figures with the actual Team Symbol would constitute the Team. (under the FF Rules)
Not ATA Keywords, Wildcards, or Thunderbolts using the TA. (under the FF Rules)
I have no idea how it will work with the New Rulebook.

Incorrect. Any character using the TA will be a target; doesn't matter if they possess the symbol or not.

Functionally, there is no change. Using a TA is all that is required.

Intresting, but does that let you choose "Amazons"?
In the same regards can you choose, "Teens"? If thats the theme Team my opponent is playing.

Thanks for the clarification, Normal. I really think that the power should be reworded or the term Team needs to be defined in the glossary for the sake of simplification. Another thing to consider- Theme Teams. By their definition, it is a team, but doesn't necessarilly share a team ability. Can UXMen target a themed team? Should they be able to? I know the answer is no to the first one, but should it be? In the past teams were tied to the symbol, then keywords, but now with ATAs being tied to keywords, I really feel that the term Team needs to be more clearly defined for these TAs as well as any future use.
If they ever make a Teen ATA, sure, knock your socks off
So you are saying that when it says to choose a "Team" you are really supposed to choose a "Team Ability".
Ok, I follow that but thats certainly a change without a memo.
On page 2 of the FF Rulebook the diagram simply says "Team" and points to the Team Symbol on the figure base. In prior rule books it used to say Team Symbol (on that diagram), and as I recall Team / Team Membership was defined by Team Symbol not Team Ability.
This definition of "Team" for the Ultimate X-Men TA should probably be spelled out in the PG so that players know they can choose an ATA which is not all that obvious. Nor, is it all that obvious that you cant choose a keyword theme team.

Come on guys... read the whole TA description, please.
Sure, what is and is not exactly a team might be a little hard to pin down, but you clearly get the bonus only when targetting either A) the chosen character (so you'd only get the bonus against 1 specific character on the entire opposing team) or B) character using the chosen team ability.
So choose "theme team" as your team, if you want, but since that isn't a specific character and there is no team ability to use called "theme team" you just wasted your UXM for that game.
If you don't want to waste it, then either pick a specific character or pick a team ability. Simple as that.
All I am asking for is for the term team to be clearly defined within the PG/rulebook and when it is to have UX and 2KAD team abilities in mind. If they want teams to be defined ONLY by TAs, then spell that out. If they want UM and 2KAD to target ONLY based on team abilities, reword them so that you chose a team ABILITY, not a team. If they want to include/exclude theme teams, word the TAs appropriately.
You act like we're asking for the rules to change. We're not. We are asking for a bit of simplification and clarification in the official documents.

I act like nothing of the sort. I simply ask that you please read the entire description of the Ultimate X-Men TA. While the opening could possibly use some tweaking (no argument there), the end of the TA clearly states that team ABILITIES are what matters... and simple keyword theme teams, while a team of sorts, are not team ABILITIES.
