In every game Cards like Magic, and Yu-Gi-Oh, to Miniature like Heroclix and Star Wars Minis, to overly expensive(but awesome) wargames like Warhammer 40k.... It's always Greater then AND Equal to for a hit. It's just how it's always been. My best explanation is that that Defense number is their threshold and by equaling it you break it. And anything else is OVER-kill. Just how I can justify it with logistics.
Did you ever wonder why attack = defense results in successful attack ... in all games?
Yeah, I know it's a standard.
I CAN also think of it as "tie goes to the runner" (which is attack over defense) or "defense must be stronger than attack" as you said. Both of these go against my gut reaction, though.

I often wonder the exact same thing (at least when I'm waxing philosophical). Certainly it's easier to use Defense as a target number to hit, but I always do a double-check when teaching a new player in case I'm just remembering it wrong.
I also wonder why Hindering Terrain stops figures dead in their tracks rather than merely slowing them down (2 move points, like in Alpha). Or, rather, every version of the Flash and Quicksilver I have wonders this...
And why does outdoor blocking terrain exist? Can't is all just be elevated? Wouldn't it be cooler to jump on top of that tank/car/etc and start taking shots at opponents than going AROUND or hiding BEHIND it all the time?
Just thinking out loud, here.

Destiny is a character I categorically wouldn't give 0 damage, especially if the sculpt had her with a crossbow. She foresaw what the opponent would do, so she was great in combat.
But Destiny's sculpt doesn't have a crossbow, so she's fully deserving of the 0 damage.
And even though Destiny could foresee on opponent's future actions, that's not exactly how her power worked in the comics. See would have dreams well in advance of events, not right before they happened. And her visions were normally of large scale events, not of little fist fights. Add that to the fact that Destiny also never ever raised her fists in violence to anyone, I think that 0 is totally justified.

Personally comical, I ponder the real questions in life, not questions about silly games!!! Things like why do they sell hot dogs in packs of 10 but hot dog rolls in packs of 8??? Or why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway??? Hmmm... things to think about my friend...

Awesome examples. I wax philosophic about those also.

I always wish the the powers' colors made more sense. Like some of them do, but others are just like "what?"
Lets take red for just a sec. Any super fast ninja makes sense to have flurry, blades, and senses, but RCE? Also charge and super strength make sense together, and ESD and Enhancement work well together, but all 4 make no real sense.

Point counter point.
Completely valid views.
Good discussion.
Rep sent.
It's a good day when you laugh, cry, and think. Now I just need to laugh and cry.

That is what I would have changed.
RCE works for me. Red is an intense colour, and I imagine a RCE attack as a really intense outpourage of energy.
It's not a question of why. It's like a mathematical axiom, it is put in place, and then everything is built from it. You cannot question why an axiom is. It's like questioning why 0 isn't equal to 1.
