The game is designed to be played with 1 or 2 monsters per side. Bear in mind that a single monster has 2 forms for the game that can be switched between, so a 2 monster game has 4 monster figures per side.
Games with more than 2 sides are possible, but you'd need a custom map, as the standard 17x17 map would get very crowded with 3 or 4 different forces on it. There are several multi-player maps around, some even free for use if you can get them printed. Other players will just get extra maps and physically cut and connect them to make bigger maps.
There's no point limits to builds, but there are limits on the number of figures allowed in a force...15, with a minimum of 4, and 2-12 buildings. Balance is controlled by having to pay to spawn your units during the game. So you could take 15 2 or 3 cost units, but you'd be spawning fewer figures than a force that takes several 1 cost units.
Regarding multi-player games... Our group does them all the time (we have 3 custom maps for it). No adjustments need to be made, but there does tend to be some "politiking" going on.

glad you're interested. MonPoc is an awesome game. The 3D aspect really makes it fun. I think that's something I've just grown used to. I was watching the Gen Con Heroclix championship match on YouTube, and it just didn't seem right not having any terrain.
As mentioned above, one monster is the standard format, with two monster gaining a lot of momentum (or so it seems). One monster is the format used for all of the Championship/Master events.
I've played in a four monster, no unit game. It was a lot of fun, but like any multi-player game, it eventually does turn into a who are we going to "gang up" on type of scenario. You do what you must to win.
Hopefully you have a player base you can tap into at your LGS or comic store. Good luck, and again, welcome.

Cool. I like some politiking in my gaming on occasion.
Thanks to you and kingbobb for your responses.
