I can't remember any ridiculous trading stories, but I've certainly bought some figures at prices that seem ludicrous after time has passed.
Most recently, I was bidding on a Sentinel of the Skyways, back when he was extremely hard to get. My max bid was about $100, and with a day to go the price had gone up to about $99 or so. Fearing that I'd be sniped (the auction ended during my working hours), I found another Sentinel of the Skyways and entered a second $100 max bid.
I ended up winning both auctions, and shelling out nearly two hundred bucks in total.
I did this exact same thing recently...but for slightly less money ($85) in each case, and for BL Kal-L.
My worst trade came last year, just after SDCC and the return of Heroclix. There was a Realms trader who was offering a Thor's Chariot for trade. I, very impulsively, offered him a WF for trade. Now, I justified this because I had not used my WF figure, and in fact had paid just $26 for it...so to me, it wasn't that lopsided at the time. Plus, with a higher iTrader, he had to send first.
Why I rank this as my worst trade is that I could have just waited a couple weeks for the Amazon ones to come out and had both Thor's Chariot and WF. Of course, both would be just sitting on my shelf right now. I was just so excited for a) Heroclix to be back and b) that particular piece, that my good judgement was clouded. Oh well...the things we do for love.
REALLY?! You start this thread now? Okay, I'll play along. Maybe it'll do me good to talk about it.
I very recently made a trade, that I was extremely happy with. I received 7 Modern Age SRs, about 8 older Uniques and about 30 odd and end REV figs for a good number of my old Overpower cards. I hadn't played with the cards in years and years, and thought this would be a good way for one hobby to reinvest in another. I was very pleased, right up until I stumbled upon a few Overpower auctions on eBay. I can not believe that those old cards are fetching the kinds of prices they are. If I had sold the cards outright, I would have probably made $500-800. That'll teach me to research my trades a little better next time.
mind if i ask you for a list of a few of the cards that you got rid of? for the most part there are some cards that are actualy still worth something. but theres a bunch of them on ebay that are priced too high. \i can remember years ago when there were three main overpower sellers on ebay, now theres only one of them left. he also offers a price guide as well... but the prices are a fluctuation of what the cards on ebay sell for. and since he would be the last major dealer on ebay he can increase a number every now and than if he saw fit by just listing the card at a slightly increased buy it now.
i still have my cards, im still looking for more. if youve got a list of what you have left id easily pick through it.
Ug.... I traded off a Unique Ultimate Carnage for MU Zombie Wolverine for a friend. I kinda glared at him when he asked for the trade but considering he had given me the figure in the first place, and a ton of others to get me into heroclix, I said "What the hell"... I hate ultimate universe anyways and now have the WoS Carnage so it works out. Then watched the kid fiddle with the dial and handed it off to someone else who acidently snapped a piece of the base off while trying to fix it.
Plus side friend also handed me Nekron recently to finish my Black Lanterns set in return for some lesser things.
My worst sale was thinking back in 2005 that when I moved from South Carolina to Indiana that I wouldn't play Heroclix again and Ebayed all but SN Thanos (i heart that piece). Looking online at what it would cost to get all those figures back makes me cry a little cry.
It's okay man. It's not your fault. No, really it's not your fault man.
Back during the Critical Mass/Indy Clix time period, I went on ebay with my brand new credit card that I had gotten. I was young, stupid, and financially irresponsible. I bought all of the uniques from both sets that I didn't have in one fell swoop. It cost me about $20 per unique on average and about $200 alltogether. (Yes, I spent that much on Indy Uniques)

I waited 2 months for my brick figures fir BatB, so I was getting anxious. Traded my only Volstagg and Venus for Bats/Cats and an Esme Cuckoo. My brick figs came in a week later...
still don't have Venus and Volstagg. And other than Throg, those are the only HoT pieces I am missing!
Great thread Back when crisis first came out I pulled 3 sinestro Sr's I was pritty new to the game and didn't think these things were worth all that much. well S.I came out and I really wanted a Jhonny LE and yeah you guessed it. Ohh -well at least it went to a good home.

Don't know just how this rates, but shortly after I'd received my 2 Green Lantern collectors sets from WK, I found a possible trading partner who was considering the idea of parting with his Legacy Ares.
The thing is, I wanted that Ares and sealed the deal by tossing in my Armor Wars Tony Stark LE, to go along with the extra GLC Collectors Set.
Every so often, I see the prices that the Green Lantern set figures fetch as singles on evilbay and I think that maybe I could have held onto that Tony Stark LE. Or better yet, held onto the GLC set for a bit longer.
But it's not like Ares is chopped liver, so if that's the worst deal I've made, I guess I've done O.K.
Tim Burton was right: "A square jaw does not a Batman make." Steve Buscemi as the next Batman! Luke Perry as Joker! Let's make it happen!
A few days later I traded one for a Unique Desaad and a Unique Catwoman from Hypertime. I was ecstatic! Two uniques for ONE!!! It wasn't until a short while after that and ebay prices soared that I realized that I had made a HORRIBLE mistake...
D'oh!
Back when Unleashed came out I had pulled a second KC Supes. Traded it to my buddy for a U Dormammu and Vet Ultron I had always wanted. I didn't know the pricing back then, but at least it went to a good home.

That's funny, because I traded my only extra Sinestro SR for the Sue Storm LE from SI. My friend REALLY wanted Sinestro and had won the tournament that Sue was available at. My wife LOVES to play Invisible Woman and will sometimes play full teams of nothing but Invisible Women so we HAD TO HAVE HER. Knowing that it would seal the deal, Sinestro was traded for her.

Thats so like me lol. I just got done trading a ton of decent figure for Batgirl, Harley quinn/poison ivy, and a few other girl clix just so my wife may play with me. She thinks that the girls can dominate the boys anyway. I lose everytime just to see her happy... Until I pull out E2.
This is apparently where our similarities end. I show my wife no mercy when it comes to clix. She says she would be even more upset with me if I "LET HER WIN" than she would be for losing. TOO many times it has come down to her vs. me in the final round of a tournament...which is fine, because we get the prize no matter who wins in this situation.

I've made several trades that the rest of you would certainly consider as being bad (IE; nowhere near on par/favorable to me).
But as both parties in the trades walked away happy, I reget nothing.
Probably the closest things I have to a regret is the $ spent on BatB.
For as poor a set as I think it is I really would've been better off buying singles.
