To be honest, I think I'd probably run behind a wall. I mean if time is almost out and I'm that far up on points, there's no reason to even let her get a shot off on you.

Several months ago we had a similar situation come up. It was SI sealed and it came down to Mystics Dr. Doom vs Sentry. Sentry had pushed a few times and had taken a shot from Doom. He was on his 2nd to last click. Doom hadn't been touched and had crit missed once to only take one damage. It was about 30 minutes left on the clock and the Doom player proceeds to try to run for the rest of the time. Sentry had no chance to catch him, let alone hit him, which even if he had he would have died from the pushing damage and the mystics feedback.

Right. And you win. It is for a $1 Million after all.

I thought this game was for a date with Megan Fox.

Well, you do have to pay her after all.

But 30 left on the clock huh? That's a lotta running but it's legal nonetheless. Can a judge be called over in that situation for the game to end and award the win to the person with Mystics Doom?

I was reading an article, a link to which was kindly provided by VGA, called Playing to Win by Sirlin. It describes how one Street Fighter champ, would gain points and then turtle the rest of the way and win on points... boring but legal.

And, didn't the winner of World's two years ago, employ the same strategy/tactic? Use the structural integrity field object to turtle?

Slightly similar to running away with 5 min. left on the clock, isn't it? But, with a million dollars on the line, wouldn't you duck and hide too?

I've read Playing to Win. I actually bought that book after VGA put up a link to it about 3 or 4 months ago. The match was the finals for a Fin Fang Foom. The Doom player was new and didn't understand that there was literally no way for the Sentry player to win. I mean Sentry had to get next to you, connect to hit, and then take 2 clicks for it, which would kill him. The game was locked up. His reasoning was that he was afraid of Doom crit missing again, but even if he had it wouldn't have put him in any danger of being killed. I understand his reasoning, but in this case, I think I'd go for the kill shot rather than running for 30 minutes. If Doom was close to being killed, I can see why he'd run, but being down 1 click and running for that long seemed pointless. The Sentry player ended up calling it after seeing that he was just running for the rest of the time.

ahh, I see. He could have just tried to go for the kill. The only way to lose was to crit miss 7 times or so... which was highly unlikely.

The situation in my original post actually happened in a practice game... and I'm wondering how a top player would play it... given a million dollar prize, or a date with Megan Fox for that matter.

In this situation, I'd probably run and hide behind a wall so that she'd have to come get me. You can easily play keep away for long enough to win the game. I'm generally not a fan of running like this, but if both are on their last click and the game is this close, then I think it's ok.

Id perplex his range down and force him to base me, then plex his damage down when he does. Theres only 5 minutes left, if he doesnt stall or run away, then hes dumb cuz strange is winning that fight
