The Dr. M colossal was not offered to retail. The figure was offered at SDCC, GenCon and on Amazon. The product was never solicited to brick and mortar retail.
We have been discussing a "retail" version of Dr. M but have not made any go/no-go decisions or announcements at this time.

Why did WizKids announce a Dr. Manhattan retail character if a go/no-go decision hadn't been made yet?
Yeah, I think that's kinda crummy if they back out on this now. I was deciding whether or not to buy this "retail version" sometime soon.
I guess I'll be hitting the secondary market if I want one now. Which means, I probably won't.

Obviously I agree that a company shouldn't say something is coming if they haven't already decided that something is coming, but you can also get the convention exclusive Dr. Manhattan with free Super Saver Shipping (available to anyone) at amazon. It is only $79.99 (was $80.00 at GenCon) so you can spend that penny on something nice.
There is no need to go the secondary market unless you want it cheaper.
A couple of players at my store (15 minutes away from downtown Indianapolis) didn't pick up Colossal Manhattan because of the Retail version announcement. They wanted to support the store.
If Wizkids hasn't even decided if they are going to make a store version, those people are going to get a little cranky. At least one of them went to Gen-Con and had the opportunity to buy Mighty Mannie.
I am hoping this is just a case of misinformation and that Retail Manhattan is already in the development pipeline.
I personally am ok with the Convention figures being convention exclusive again.
It's okay man. It's not your fault. No, really it's not your fault man.
I feel for those who wanted the colossal. The giant and Zen hattan will be plenty enough for me once I recieve them. The colossal is nice and all I just don't think it fits the character. The likelyhood of me using him in any games is very slm as well. I would be buying him only for the sake of having him. Nothing really wrong with that either.
It's the price point that makes it worth it to me. I can't see spending $100 on one, but nabbing one at less then $40 from T&T is well worth it to me (and I even bought a Watchmen set).
But every time I get an email saying they have some back in stock I rush to the link and they're already sold out.
That's a very good question, and rep has been sent.
I can only speculate that it was something they planned, and then reconsidered for either timing or costs. The problem is that Justin announced it as fact, and even said "this year."
I know there are people who didn't buy one yet ...
because of the announcement.
because their store would get one.
hoping the retailer version would have translucent plastic or extra energy representations somehow.

I'm thinking they held off until SDCC and Gencon to see how well they would do. Seemed to me as if SDCC didn't go so well for manhattan. Just speculating.
I'm feeling quite glad that I've never bought from T&T. I doubt I ever will after these shenanigans.
I hate to sound like a troll, but honestly, they've been nothing but awesome for me. I would hate to see them lose customers over this. Granted, they probably overestimated how many they could get their hands on and at what price, so they may just be trying to recoup losses at this point. Still, their customer service is fantastic, their selection is (generally) awesome, and I've never had troubles with them, whether it be buying or selling.
