i was just thinking Congorilla would make an easy LE out of Gorilla City Warrior.

Now there'd be a good use for the AE mechanic. I've got a Colonel Mustard from the Clue set with actual figurines; just about clix-sized and it'd make a great Congo Bill!
Some background on this article. The idea came from a certain Realmser (who I'm sure will identify themself when they find this article) and their persistent campaigning for Ultrahumanite's inclusion in the series. As I was exploring options for post-PAC articles, the Ultrahumanite jumped out at me, as did an excellent title. I had to make the monkey feature!
About a week back, I got the urge to get on it. I blame it on Donkey Kong Country Returns, and its imminent arrival pushing me to replay the old SNES classic. So I pooled the dials and started writing notes on it to myself. It was Wednesday; I'd completed half my writeups, and the preview of Johnny Quick alluded to apes. That's when it all came together. I had a deadline.
Everything was finalized last night, including pictures for the two dials I suspected we'd get today. Sure enough, dials posted, and littlebitte was kind enough to HCRealms the dials for me. And thus we have possibly the fastest article review of a preview figure in clix history.
Hope you all love it!
And I play monkey teams every so often! Great write-up, I hadn't even seen Solavar's dial yet, but thanks for giving the Humanite his day in the sun!
ULTRA-HUMANITE of the SSOSV Clan!
ROCK WARS TRIO WINNER: RUSH!
The advice of Neil Peart:
I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose FREEWILL!
We will pay the price, but we will not count the cost
It turns out the lack of range on monkeys is a bit of a perception thing. It's still significant when a monkey has it, as many of the filler options lack it. For those mid-to-low characters that do, take someone like Gorilla Man as an example, it's often preferable to get them in close.
More accurate regarding range is that 'Few Animal keyworded characters have it', as once you're outside of monkeys you're hard-pressed to find range.
I kinda disagree with the assessment of Grodd. He is probably the best choice of a figure out of all of these. He has so many options it is very difficult for him to not have an advantage in any situation. He is priced nicely to have a fair amount of support. In comparison you gave V Monsieur Mallah and the Brain a 4... and they were terrible when they first came out...
We're living in an ape vacuum, so just because Mallah&Brain weren't all stars in the grand scheme of clix doesn't mean they aren't great apes.
Both have 8 range and Running Shot, but for 23 more points Grodd loses one target. Grodd has to stay in the fight so his RCE can work. 4 clicks of Outwit is less useful than 3 of Outwit and 4 of Perplex. Neither is a bad choice, but it's easier to build a team around Mallah (or use him as a second big threat) than Grodd (whose cost will exclude a second big threat unless that fig is, indeed, Mallah&Brain).
My one suggestion would be to use the Blue Lantern to help with Grodd's Range and that way you do get a "use" out of his Barrier. You can even have Ultra carry it around. You can even add in both the Blue and the Purple Lantern and let Ultra have some extra Mind Control Range as well.
Damn you for making an article that now makes me want to run monkey's this weekend instead of Sinestro. You sure are a monster!!!
When I read this I flashed back to Madagascar, where the two monkeys just bought the bus tickets, turned around, and all those cops were pointing guns at them and the one said "If you have any poo, throw it now."
Flinging Poo: This character can use Incapacitate. When this character makes a successful attack using Incapacitate, the target of the attack suffers a -1 on all current combat abilities due to the stickiness and smell.
