I didn't ridicule you, I just stated my opinion and you went all boffo. In fact, I did the same thing in the Lynyrd Skynyrd contest and no one jumped on me there, not even RE or you for that matter.

Clever. Back in another thread were I stated that I voted for a group you didn't feel was worthy based on seeing them in concert and you said some ather unflattering things about what I and my woman could do, but now, no mention of that part of conversation exists in said thread.

That's fine. Keep your Breakfast at Tiffany's memories, and I'll keep mine. That was my point, after all. We both vote based on them and no band is "inferior" because of it, despite what you might think.

I've learned to enjoy these music threads a lot, and its been a relaxing change from some things you see on other forums. Simplifying it a LOT, VelvetGuru9 said Winwood would always be better than Chicago (maybe sounded a little superior, maybe didn't), you disagreed (maybe a little more forceful than some would think necessary), and it escalated. I understand getting in heated arguments, and have even had 3 well-deserved infraction points for my own part in a "brawl". But it really just sucks the fun right out of a music discussion.

You can tell me to kiss it, and that its none of my business, and you will probably be right. You won't get any argument from me. But for my own selfish reasons, which is keeping the fun in these competitions, I'm sincerely asking that it doesn't spill over into all the other threads. Every ones opinions on songs, and the memories that are associated with those songs, counts. And I'm interested in hearing those opinions. And having friendly discussions. Even friendly diagreements.

The winner everyone is interested in should to be the winning songs. You guys had a spat. Personally I'm impressed a great deal by the musical knowledge both of you bring to the table. And no, I'm not going to vote on who knows more. Don't actually care, just care about anything interesting that is contributed. Personally, I think the most interesting thing at this point would be for both of you guys to team up and tell me what a smart-mouth I am, and to go mind my own business. I've definitely been told that before! But its worth it for me to come home after a day of stress at work, and escape from it enjoying listening to music and talking about music.

I probably got a bit carried away with my comment, thinking we were in the Same Name Different Song thread where we let everyone have their say. It's a bit of a different mentality, because I actually encourage people to say how they feel and the funny thing is, it works in that forum, but not in here when it's a one on one thing. We've also seen it get nasty in the Rock Wars, back further in the day.

People really get their dander up when you come down on a band they like because i think that subconsciously and sometimes more outwardly, the songs and bands we like tend to define who we are as individuals and really, bno one wants to be told that their band sux and yours is better because it can be taken as an attack on them.

Being from the music industry I used to see a lot of this first hand and after a while began a little experiment. Whenever I was at a club or at the beach or anywhere the ladies were at, and I made good eye contact with a girl, I'd go and talk to her and I would always ask, "What kind of music do you like?" They almost always would answer, I like all types. Why, because I believe that they didn't want me to try and figure out who they were just yet. If the girl says, Mariah Carey or Led Zeppelin or Backstreet Boys might give away too much at first and make her vulnerable.

As soon as you say, This is what I like, the girl would then say what her favorite style or genre is; because you took away the scary part about defining her too quickly.

This all goes to what happened before and I should have known what was happening and backed off but I didn't. My fault, I know.

By the way DrFate, what kind of music do you like? I kid, I kid. I think I need to go to the SNDS thread and do my votes and make my snarky comments.

No! Don't leave the Covers threads, that would be a HUGE loss. If you leave, I may have to leave also, since I got in the middle (felt like getting in between brothers, always a bad idea). That wouldn't be fair to RE, he works too hard on these. I actually enjoy snarky comments in ALL the music threads, and hope to give and get many more. After all, it ain't church. I think you guys just got ahold of the same bone at the same time, and on any given day, any of us could hold on longer than necessary.

And for now, I like all kinds of music!!

I don't work all that hard on these. I do have to remember to vote on these sometimes and I'm not exactly the Tally man. I have to remember to count the votes.

My big goal is to interest people in something they haven't heard before.
