Yes, but Yellow Jacket's B version from SI allows him to cancel team abilities-including Sinestro's Quintessence TA.
Psychic blast is always a great tool against dangerous figures with reducers. A pair of Moonstone figs are great.
Also, if you can cancel the Quintessence TA and get Sinestro to his first Live click, you can Outwit that ability. I believe that means that the second Live click won't work if you can hit him for six more that turn.
It's "counter" not "cancel" here.
You are correct, though, that countering the power on the first instance will counter it when it shows up later.

Here's something that worked rather well for me today.
We played a big 1200pt multi-player game this afternoon.
Opening move of the game, one of my opponnents sent a WL Sinestro straight at me, unsupported, landing on one of the castle walls. I'm not sure what his stratagy was....
My 3 DoFP Advanced Sentinels (each set at 400pts) though?
They treated him like Wolverine & cut loose with a barrage of RCE multi-attacks.
Sentinel #1 hit both times, cripling Sinestro.
Sentinel #2 hit both times finishing him off.
Sentinel #3 was sad & had to choose another a course of action.
From there it devolved into a long game of me trying to capture his best pieces & him trying to free them.
Amusing to me, irritating to him, & in the end neither of us won.
Shoot him with a lot of psiblast - there are 4 damage psiblasters out there -, or throw a big close-combat hitter at him. 4 clics and he's on his frist Live!, 5 more and he's on his last Live!. That's one Namor with a Light object and a +1 from Perplex to damage using Flurry on him. Or one Hercules with +1 damage from Perplex carrying 2 heavy objects and smashing him with both. Or one Superman with... Oh, well : you got the idea. Smash HARD.

Mine got beat last night - here's how it went down.
KC Supes from Crisis flurry with 2 heavy, missing Imperv roll...Cosmic Spidey runs up and pokes Sinestro for the last click! Easy peezy, lemon squeezy!
As others have said, the best bet is to make sure you always have a follow-up attacker to push him past his LIVE! clicks. Knocked out a WL sinestro with Detective Chimp this way.
Otherwise, pulse wave works well. Ignores powers, including live. Thorbuster can wreck this guy.

Really if you base him with another couple figures, it makes his use of that psyblast, well pretty much worthless, unless he breaks away, however you can use some plasticity to slow that maneuver down.
as with many high point figures often put into a tent pole team. his bane is often just numbers against him. if your fig puts him to his wimpy Live! power use another of many of your figs to knock him off it that turn. DO.NOT.WAIT. for him to recover...
