Playing Marvel Vs. DC is great- around the house. Around the house we mix them up all the time. As soon as I play this way elsewhere though, I regret it. Terrible frustration and regret. The local tournament is usually mixed too, and I refuse to use a cheese-laden abusive mix just to win a gold-ringed bit of plastic. Everyone plays the all-wildcard team, usually Ultrons and Doombots; adds in a Rookie Robin, Scientist Supreme, Intergang Agent. Variations include Defender and Rookie Invisible girl. Now you just hide the team pieces deep in the battlefield, and have an all-stealthed, all-outwit team, and possibly all sharing defense or attack values.
Much of the blame goes to wizkids though. Many of the team abilities are completely lame. Batman team, for example, should have been made to convey LEAP and not the far more powerful and useful stealth. The figures would then get clicks of stealth rather than leap. Spider team should be just like this as well. Believe me, when / IF there is ever a mystic, this will just get more abusive and less fun to play.
So, if you're willing to adopt a house rule, you can cut about 90% of the cheese out. Try one of these:
#1- A wildcard figure picks ONE team at the start of game to belong to and may not switch.
#2- Batman team figures have leap-climb on all clicks, and stealth where leap is indicated on dial. Spider team have super senses on all clicks. Doom team have superman enemy ability and LofS have LD.
Whenever I play I like to agree which sets we will be using (mixing or not) and then we play both players only using figures of the sets we agree. As far as I seen, there are not much people that play without using any IC figure (except for those that play DC only) and I believe it is fun to try out new combinations and watch the results.
I dont enjoy it so we rarely do it at home. Our local tourney scene will sometimes have a mixed one but they are few and far between.I would rather have these mixed ones instead of DC only since I own mostly marvel figs and relate to them more.
