I thoroughly enjoyed Thor and look forward to the Avengers movie next year. I liked the Punisher as Volstagg and nice preview of a future Avenger. Great performance from Captain Kirk's Dad and Padme. (Leave it to Marvel to mix Star Trek and Star Wars.) Looking forward to getting a copy of it for Christmas.
Rating: 10 as I had a lot of fun watching it and that is all that counts.
I enjoyed it. It wasn't great, but felt very solid. Natalie Portman is very annoying. I just can't tell if she's a good actress or not. Either way, she unnerves me...or something. Didn't fit the role I felt.
Was funny too. Decent visuals. Fine story. Blah blah. Obviously the expected happened right on cue, but it wasn't tiresome.
Good movie: nice blend of action, drama and comedy.
My one issue is that some things happened very fast, in particular Thor's "redemption" (I agree with Wyldstaar that the Thor/Jane relationship seemed to move just about right). And I'd have liked to see the Warriors Three and Sif get a little more character development. But then we've got a LotR-style trilogy in length, and I can forgive the things that seemed a little rushed in the name of "fitting it into the allotted time". Really looking forward to the Avengers movie, especially after seeing the trailer at the end of Captain America.
Not the best movie ever, or even the best Super Hero movie ever, but in the upper tier: 8 out of 10.
By the way, did anyone else notice that when they're preparing to return to Asgard Fandral and Darcy are holding hands? Dude's a fast worker.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
“No matter how subtle the wizard, a knife between the shoulder blades will seriously cramp his style.”
Since I don't want the last rating (in here) of this movie to be poor, I'll throw in my review.
9/10
This is my favorite Superhero movie, but I think it's because I may read more into the story than others. To me, this is a movie about the realationships between a father and his two sons, one of whom is adopted. I think they did a great job with the story, and it could have been told with any back-drop. That they were able to do it with Odin, Thor and Loki just made it cooler. This is the movie I make my family watch with me on Father's day.
There are 2 things that prevent me from giving it a 10 out of 10. Thor's time on Earth seemed too short. I understand that in the interest of the story they shrunk it, but I think they could have done some time lapsing where he spent at least months on Earth learning humility. Also, as others have said, when Thor had his powers returned, the battle with the Destroyer armor was too easy/fast.
I thought Hiddleston did a fantastic job as Loki. His subtle nuances and looks really sold the character to me. Helmsworth was fantastic as Thor - his presence and machismo were fantastic, and he did a great job of speaking like Thor without sounding stupid. With Hopkins as Odin, I was worried about overacting. While he owned a lot of the scenes he was in, he didn't overact and ruin the scenes, but elevated them. When he takes Thor's powers and casts him out was my favorite scene in the movie. Sif, the Warriors 3, Friga, the Frost Giants...I just love everything about this movie. /gushing
