Everyone is just voting for Green Grass because of Rock Band!

Just kidding. But I do wonder how much influence that game will have on some of the contests, and also culture in general. My kids already listened to older songs because of me, but they actually LIKE some of them because of Rock Band.

I'm having trouble picking between the two, because I'm such a huge George Lynch fan. Someone else from his era who I don't think was nominated is the guitarist from Winger, Rob Beach. I despised that band, but was always noticed that the guitarists I knew struggled to play his songs. Just watching them try to play the riff to 17 was an exercise in frustration.

I never got into the Outlaws, and I always thought of Green Grass as "that Freebird Ripoff". However, now that I'm older and I'm trying to view these contests fairly, I forced myself to listen closely to the song. It's a great jam, and the guitarist has a lot of somersaults going on in his playing.

HOWEVA...George Lynch is a personal favorite, and I love all of the different sounds he coaxes out of his guitar for this song. He could have just gone full shred and made this one long guitar solo, but instead he picked his spots and threw a lot of different styles in there in little pieces. So yeah, I nominated this song, but with good reason!

I was enjoying the Outlaws thirty years before Rock Band came about.
